In gear acceleration times

Featured Replies

What sort of in gear accleration times do you thing a remapped (say 180 - 190 bhp) Fabia Vrs would get? say 30 - 70 in 3rd and in 4th? i know it would be more impressive than its 0-60 time but just how impressive in relation to other cars?

standard or uprated clutch (if it makes a difference)

Never timed mine, but 30 to 70 is when it really surprises pretty beefy motors

30 to 70 is 2nd and 3rd, not 3rd and 4th. Mine does that in just over 4 seconds with a gearchange but would still expect a remapped fabia vRS to do it in around 6 seconds, maybe less.

I would not attempt to start at 25mph (to allow 30mph to pass whilst accelerating and to start the clock) in 3rd gear. Too low down the rev range I reckon, where it's off-boost. 2nd gear for sure. ;) 3rd should go to 75mph ish

sorry i meant in a single gear so starting at 30mph in 3rd and accelerating to 70mph still being in 3rd. and also the same in 4th gear.

I roughly timed my fabia at low 7 seconds for 30-70 in 3rd. did try it in 4th and it didnt feelmuch slower but didnt time it.

50-70 in 4th I find rather impressive.

Well, I think 3rd gear 30 to 70 would still be around 6.5 seconds or so, but care would be needed to feed in 3rd gear gently to avoid overboost. Will also depend on the tuning as often stock cars have more torque low down when mapped, whereas mine has all the torque at about 3000 revs, so I would probably actually be slower 30 to 70 in 3rd than a mapped fabia vRS due to me not hitting the peak power until a bit later. But then that's why I'd use 2nd gear hehe.

for the first second or so im only on half throttle. get the revs abit higher before I give it full torque.

Taken from Wikipedia (for a stock one):

Official figures state 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 9.5 seconds, but several motoring magazines and websites have measured faster times (around the 7.0-7.5 seconds range) (Autocar: 7.1 seconds,[1] Auto Express: 8.1 seconds,[2] and FastHatchbacks.com: 8.5 seconds[3]). The in gear acceleration times are 50-70 mph in 5.6 seconds, quicker than BMW's 330i which takes 6.0 seconds. 20-40 mph in 2.4 seconds is as quick as the Lotus Elise 111R.

Dunno if that helps with your comparison at all...

I have never timed mine, should do really! However I know mine will do 60mpg-100mph in under 8 seconds, id guestimate around 7.5 seconds.

hehe 60mpg to 100mph thats amazing very clever speedo you got there!! :giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:

Oh yes 60mpg @ 100mph ;) LOL.

Nah afriad not... just 7.5 secs from 60mph - 100mph

would be good tho 60mpg whilst doing 100mph cant help but think motorway would be a faster place lmao!:giggle:

This reminds me to go do some timing with the VBox for this one :)

I used a Racelogic Driftbox to time my 30-70 sprint. My car was map'd by Jabba to a quoted 180bhp and 312 lb/ft (420Nm). I did several runs trying different gearing combinations and the best it achieved was 6.1s by using 2nd from 30mph, changing to 3rd at 4k and going into the red-line to hit 70. An extra change to 4th to keep out of the red added 0.4s to get 6.5s. Starting in 3rd just off boost and running on torque with a change to 4th was about 6.7s.

I should add that the car was running grippy track tyres on a dry road, and was lightened by removing the rear seats and spare, and was also using BP Ultimate with Millers PS4 for the day.

30 to 50 in 3rd in my remaped fabia with 340 torque just nder 3 secs.

My pug 306 HDI remapped to 160 bhp does 30-70 in 6.1 secs and 0-60 in 7.8 i would of thought a 190bhp skoda would have better times!

Angel remaped my car and there quoting a 0-60 time of 7.1 i dont think its that quick even with all the extra bits ive put on mind you i havent quite figured how i use first gear yet any ideas i either put to much power and lights up the front tyres or not enough and it dies!

30 to 70 in 4 seconds. ;) Might be less now though with new setup. 2nd to redline, then 3rd to redline. My car's not got much below 1500rpm, so the best power is to be had from taking each gear to the limiter (or close to it)

so with your stats jason mine cant be running that 0-60 that they stated?

This thread seems a bit racey now. Why would you want to know what your 30-70 speeds are compared with other cars, are you trying to decide what to race against?

Why not? What harm does knowing actually do? ;)

I've just looked at Autocar report (12 Oct 04) and when they tested a 'standard' vRS

0-60 = 7.2 sec

0-100 = 23.8 sec

20-70 (in 4th) = 19.0 sec

30-50 (in 3rd) = 3.6 sec

30-70 (thro' Gears) = 7.6 sec

50-70 (in 6th) = 11.2 sec

In the report they mention 50-70 in 4th takes 5.6 seconds.

I still don't believe that 0-60. I cannot see how 60 can come up in 7, and it takes them another 16.5 odd seconds to do the other 40mph. They don't just stop accelerating from 60.....

Here are the rest of the figures and proof:
