Is what people actually want a 1.8 with 1.2 economy?

Featured Replies

The 1.2 TSi and the 1.8 TSi both seem to have good torque figures. They also have maximum torque available over a wide range of revs which I suppose could make them feel more like a diesel.

As for the original question, I'm sure we'd all love a 1.8 with 1.2 economy! :D

well if this thread is correct it looks like the 1.4 TSi Yeti is on the way.

Petrol motors have come a long way in fuel consumption terms, but devils fuel motors have come even further is usable rev range, refinement and power output.

I would still rather have a 1.4 or 1.6 TSI with 150-160bhp and 40+ mpg; if Audi could get 40+ out of a 2.2 petrol engined A100 in the early 80's, why cant VAG do it now with a much smaller engine??

FYI the A100 CD was a huge, heavy beast with a 133bhp bosch multipoint fuel injected straight 5 cylinder engine; I used to get mid to high 30's doing courier work in it, and 45+ on long motorway journeys ( cough at 100mph or higher cough).

The same basic engine, but with a different head and a turbo, was used in the original RS2

PS I am talking about the manual gearbox'ed version, the auto box drank fuel like an alcoholic drinks cheap vodka and the 2.0 had a lower spec injection system that made it pretty thirsty as well.

After a couple of years, Audi bored the engine out to 2.3 and buggered it up, only a little extra power, but mpg plummeted to mid- high 20's!!!!
