Fitting Sony HU - Help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just got a Sony CDXS2000, and the instructions warn only to use with powered aerials - WITH a Relay - does the Fabia have a relay???

I've got the Blauplunkt (

By power antenna it means the type that used to wind up with a motor.. :) That pin wont be connected in your car loom :)

Should just all connect up, you may have to swap the red and yellow bullet connectors over in the sony loom but thats it! You shouldnt need any adaptor cables:)

You will end up with poor FM reception and hardly any AM reception though. The standard Fabia headunit has an inbuilt radio amplifier, your Sony doesn't. You can buy external aerial amplifiers for

Ooops yeah forgot about the little metal tube thingy that is needed to boost reception... But other than that there are no wiring loom adaptors required!:)

Guys,

I'm confused now not sure what the Sony warning refers to: Active antenna or motorised aerial?

I've got this http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/vw.asp which includes the inline tube 'thingy'.

The HU manual is most likely referring to a signal that will either power an active antenna booster or a motorised aerial.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The signal is just a "signal" and not driving it. What Sony are worried about is on very old cars with motorised aerials / booster where the 12V feed out of the back of the head unit probably did drive the motor directly or powered a very power-hungry aerial amplifier, and newer head units such as the Sony isn't designed to produce much more than a few 100 milliamps.

If fitted to a new car, it'll be fine. You'll deffo need the booster but this won't be pulling too much current to strain the HU.

Thanks guys,

Looking at the wiring the 'aerial' power line (blue) pin on the Sony lead, lines up with the supply to the Bluspot in line booster.

I'll give it a go later this evening or tomorrow.

Just done a temporary installation Stll poking out a few inches - not got the proper surround adaptor yet, and it all seems to work OK. Quite good sounds for a basic set and Skoda speakers.

But with the Sony and the Bluespot cable harness's - not sure that there will be room to stuff it all in!!

If you think that's tough, wait till you have 3 pairs of line-level preouts with thick shielded cable, a wiring loom adaptop which just doubles the amount of mess and random other cables for gps / satnav / handsfree car kit ;)

I've got the same and a "tight fit" is an understatement!!!
