Glovebox - Lock broken

Featured Replies

Ok so the glove box in the skoda fabia has become stiff and no longer pushes in :(

I have to yank at the glovebox to get into it - I was basically told that a replacement is going to cost £70 which I simply dont have at the moment

Is this actually a @common problem@ and does anyone know of an easy way to fix this??

Not seen any posts about this before! I take it its the mechanism on the door thats stiff? You can get hold of them seperately, or you could get a second hand one from somewhere like:

http://www.skospares.com/

or a local scrappy... just make sure you get the right colour! Fitting should be fairly straight forward, is only 6 torx screws holding the glove box in

Is it the mechanism or just the latch being remaining a little proud when you pull the opener? Easy to see when the door is open; the latch should not protrude. SWMBO believed that glove boxes are Tardis like - they're not and the lid gets a bit distorted. In her case, careful examination showed that the latch was not quite disengaging. The good tug worked because it bent the plastic. A few minutes work with sandpaper on the end of the latch was enough to make it work perfectly (it took longer to empty the glovebox of 'necessities' than it did to fix the problem). HTH.

My post of last November should help you

'recently mine would not open at all. I had to use force to open it. The lid is made of two pieces welded together. I forced the two sides apart, and found it had multiple tags to join the two sides.High frequency welding by vibration had been used to join the sides. The fault ,the catch ,had jumped a tooth, leaving part of the latch exposed, which jammed on one of the fixed side cut outs . The mechanism, which is quite flimsy, consist of a cog wheel turned by lifting the handle. Two toothed pieces in slides were made to pull in both side catches releasing the lid. After realigning mechanism,I joined both sides with UHU . To make sure the side stayed together and glued ,l put 4 1" panel pins in both ends of the lid. They are not seen when lid is shut. I did paint the nail heads with grey paint. '

I was looking for that, as it happens! I'll get used to this new site software one day...

Stiff glovebox, check for any Viagra lying loose in the glovebox.
