18th birthday, new car time, skoda fabia and planned mods

Featured Replies

ive put this on the site twice, wasnt sure where i should put it, so its here and in intro yourself

hey all, its almost my 18th birthday, and after a year of driving a beat up old corsa. my parents have decided too buy me a new car for my 18th.

after looking at all the usual routes like golfs, focus, etc etc.

i decided i really l ike fabias, did a insurance quote, got one for £1300. with the mods it only goes too£1500, still £900 cheaper than a standard corsa 1.4 sxi

it would be the 1.4,and im a guy

the car would be 52 - 55 plate.

so ive set my heart on a fabia, either silver or black, poss red.

now for the cool stuff, i wanna modify it, not garishly but well. so heres my ideas, tell me what you think, and if its possable

Front: Debaged grill, xeon headlamp bulbs, LED sidelights. LED daytime running lamps next too the fog lamps/

Side, not alot, colourcode the door handles, and new wing mirrors, or colour code,

rear, debage, LED numberplate lights,

Windows: Tinted,

rear screen, wiper revoved

lower the suspention, about 25 mill? not sure what looks best

alloys, i was thinking black ones on a red or silver car, silver/white on a black one. would audi TT/ rs4 rims fit? or can you suggest some nice wheels, that require no modification, around (£200) i dont want them too stick out. so poss the fabia vrs wheels?

a new backbox. not a massive one, just like the one thats fitted too the audi RS6, but not so big lol.

oh, if i get a red one, would it look good with a black roof? ive seen the new fabia in this combo and it looks good with black wheels,

or a white roof on a black fabia.

inside.

7 inch touch screen sat nav combo, im thinking its got a polo interior, so the sat navs available should fit the gap. ( they have radio, sat nav, ipod conectivity etc)

uprated door speakers, im not sure what sizes i would need? any ideas? or how good are the standards with a new headunit

im not sure what the bass is like in the standard fabia speakers, so poss a sub in the boot? with a amp

im not sure if it has kick plates in the doors, but i would change these too be metal.

finaly some footwell lights, but im not sure about these, they could look quite tacky.

Big alarm, and a tracker. ( ive got the traker on my car now)

i would like too have a bodykit, but all the ones on sale are proper crappy ones that look so stupid. is there anyway of gettin hold of a vrs kit for the standard fabia?

also, graphics. i dont know if this could work, but stripes at the side of the doors like on a fiesta st, in a greyish colour.

opions, ideas greatly apprisiated.

i will have about £1100 for all the modifications. i want it too look smart and subtle not taky and chaved up,.

Great forum!

First. get an insurance quote with all those mods declared, as I suspect a rethink is in order.

Happy Birthday mate, car plan sounds good

Even with second-hand parts, I'm not sure you'll get that lot for £1100. Also, as Manny says above, I can see your insurance jumping!

I like the debadge idea; suggest combining it with removing the chrome grille surround. Colour coding or contrasting the door handles can work; Have a play in Fotochop.

IIRC the Furbie vRS just has a different front bumper, and an extra rear spoiler, not a bodykit as such. In which context a VAG 6.5J16 wheel will fit with the standard springs and 205 section tyres. Decent new tyres that size are likely to run £300..350 for 4 though.

Also you say "I don't want it to look chavved up". Well, IMO LED day running lights are unnecessary, and look chavvy even when they're designed in like on the latest Audis. Also, without re-running the argument about "are Xenons legal?", if you want best light, fit 4300K units, and don't go over 6000K anyway, because that will get you pulled.

I'd also seriously rethink removing the rear wiper, The back end of a Furby gets really dirty, really quickly!

Think about a Polo wiper arm & blade!

If I was you id keep it standard for a year then sell it for a VRS. You'll spend way over £1000 on all those mods.

I got a VRS when I was 19 and it was only £1300 FC with a claim against me.

Driving for a year then doing a stack of mods to a perfectly good car, must be a street cred thing. I can think of a much better way to spend £1000 :p

VRS for £1300 FC? Same age, 1 years no claims and a 1.4mpi was still £900 anything online wouldnt quote for a vrs. Who were you insured with?

Honestly the 1.4 is too slow, i would save for a vrs! :D

Hi, if your after a non-chavy look i would keep it bog standard.

Personally when i see a modified fabia i always think, WHY?? Just save for a VRS (they really arent that much more) Insurance may be a different matter but you would not be paying £1,000 more, thats for sure.

I appreciate you want your car to look diferent so feel free to dismis everything i said lol. Just my opinion, By the way way well done for choosing a FAB, you wont be disapointed whatever you end up getting.

I like ya plan mate but wouldn't go with the LED lights.. but that's just me because more n more people are fitting them.

You can def do footwell lights as I've done them my self.. as long as you do it well and not in a silly colour (I actually used bulbs rather then LED's to get a warmer look to match the roof light) they look quite smart.. and actually, I'd really miss them now.. I turn just the map lights on sometimes and it seems so dark in the car.

On this pic i've also painted the air vent's + gear surround and ash tray.

You could remove the door bump strips as well but the lower spec cars didn't come with them anyway.

id just save up for a VRS to be honest i have a 1.4 16v (the only one thats worth going for in the petrol engines) i just use it as a runaround im geting a vrs and ive been quoted £1500 fc for a vrs and im 19. All the mods are going into that no point on the 1.4 16v.

I'd spend the £1100 to get a better car to start with. With the reliability of the Fabia anyway you could easily spend that much on repairs in a year or two.

I agree on the advice but not the implication of unreliability...the Fabia is generally more reliable than its rivals is it not? Both of mine have been excellent.

Every factory throws out the odd 'lemon' :S

Im with admiral. on of the only insurers that would have me. Direct line would give me a quote until I was 21 :o and my families been with them for over 15 years, Mum even worked with them.

What 1.4 are you going for , the 8 or 16V? The insurance will be slightly higher on the 16V I'd guess. On the subject of mods (and I realise it is your money and I'm not about to say you should or shouldnt spend it!) I would leave the major stuff alone , do the subtle stuff that wont affect your insurance , ie debadge , colour coding grille and door handles ect , dont spend a fortune on mods and extra insurance on a car thats alway going to be a stop gap to bigger and better things when you get more NCD. On the subject of the 8V MPI (and this ALWAYS comes up in these types of thread) I really dont feel its that underpowered and thats after almost 5 years of ownership. Okay 68 BHP isnt gonna set the world alight , but trust me , the car before my MPI was a 260BHP Evo 2 Lancer , and I can make perfectly adequate progress in the MPI. It sits at 80ish on the Motorway no probs , ive seen 3 figures on the speedo on a private track , I get roughly 36 to 40 MPG depending on my driving. Finally , welcome to Briskoda and I hope you find a good Fabia to replace your Corsa..

Plan sounds good!

but if i was you i would just keep it simple

a couple of mods just now, and get some NCB's then in a couple of years go for something better....

25mm lowerage  try coilovers much better drop! as you can wind them up and down as much as you want.

Wheels- Check out Rimstyle good choice of wheels on there!

Exhaust- Prob go custom as its cheaper just a backbox just now

AP Coilovers £370

Exhaust custom backbox roughly £150

HID kit 4300k £70

Wheels- its upto you how much you wanna spend maybe need to push your budget up a bit more than £200

as above you are left with £510, then decide what wheels you want and how much to spend on them. You can make it look good with some simple mods ;)
