Door Deadening?

Featured Replies

Hello my drivers door feels hollow compared to the other ones and doesnt make the same thud when closed as the others. I have done a search on this and found a couple of posts, i emailed the guy direct who had the same problem and he said that the door deadening was missing and he needed a new handle. I was just wondering how easy door deadening is to replace does it just stick on behind the drivers door card or do more things need to be took of before fitting. Thanks Glenn

It's my understanding it's sticky pads of a special material that just sticks to the door skin on the inside and deadens vibrations.

I'd be really surprised if this was missing from the factory though, is it a replacement door?

I also can't see how the door handle would have anything to do with the sound of the door.. unless the latch mechanism acts as a shock absorber when closing?

I'm just thinking out loud though mate, someone more knowledgeable will come along shortly :)

Have you checked you've got the big rubber bump stop on the bottom rear corner?

I dont know if its a replacement door or not. No the handle doesnt seem to spring back like the others do. As for the door it feels tinny and hollow when you tap the outside compared to the others the bloke i emailed had the same problem and he said that the door deadening was missing. The part form skoda is £13 and for them to fit it would be £120 so i was just thinking if its an easy job i could do it myself.

Glenn, the door pad is quite easy to get off. I removed mine for some reason.

I'm sure I followed a "how to" on here somewhere.

Then you can have a look to see if the sound deadening is missing.

Ah thanks Jon, is it obvious to see if the sound deadening is missing?

Yep. There should be pieces of material stuck to the metal door panel.
