SD card confusion

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just bought an SD card for the first time and downloaded a number of albums from my Itunes software (originally from CDs) and tried to put these in the Yeti, but it doesn't seem to even recognise that I have put the card in.

Asking the dealer, they tell me that the files need to be MP3 format to work and checking the ones I have put on the SD card are MPEG4 format, does this make any kind of sense?

The card is being recognised by my computer and I have been able to download these files onto it, if they need to be MP3 format, can anyone tell me a simple way of doing this (if it is not already obvious, I am no techie)?

Thanks in anticipation.

Tony

Hi,

It has to be mp3 or wma format, not DRM protected.

To do audio convert try this My link. Dont know if it can deal with itunes material. It's in both free version and payed (more formats).

BTW, anyone tested SDHC (over 2GB) card in pre week 45 Columbus?

You can also right click on the files in iTunes and choose 'Create MP3 version' as long they aren't protected.

I also think that the SD card has to be formatted as FAT32.

In general, players that will only accept upto 2Gb SD cards need to be formatted FAT and players that read SDHC cards upto 32Gb read FAT and FAT32; although obviously, you cannot format a card above 2Gb as FAT.

If you have NERO CD/DVD Burning Suite, it contains a file format converter that works very well, although the mp3PRO codec is not included and needs to be added separately (it is freely available, so dont pay Nero for it).

For car use you do not need a high bitrate, you cannot hear any difference above 128Kbps (98Kbps mp3PRO), so only code at a higher rate if you are also going to use the files in a seriously good quality mp3 player/headphone set-up.

I cannot hear the difference between 128k and 320k through a pair of £100 headphones on my Creative Zen mp3 player.

WMA is not as good as mp3 and needs a much higher bitrate to sound acceptable, so stick to mp3.

Thanks GG Very helpful. I now understand. ;)
