Money and no imagination...

Afternoon guys

Sitting here, fed up to the back teeth of writing and I started thinking...

When my warranty is up in 18 months, what should I do to the Octy 4x4? And no funny b****rs saying "trade it for a VRS" please.

1) With a

Which of the standard components are going to be nearing the end of their life by then?

That would be an obvious place to start

Have you checked the "mods worth doing" thread? As someone mentioned, it's "gold dust" ;)

i have such plans hatching in my mind for when the warranty runs out and i dont care...

my list kinda goes like:

exhaust system inc downpipe and cat (100cel)

TIP (samco all in one)

boost hose kit (samco)

upper and lower braces

pads/discs

remap.

then possibly as money allows, arb's and coilovers.

i would think the above minus coilovers and arb's would come in at about

For

Remap... Ferodo DSC2500 pads.... Beer....

(it's all you need)

I have already read, with great interest ( ;) ), the sticky on mods. However, I thought this may vary given the fact that I have a 4x4, not the VRS like the majority of the owners here.

It was a musing more than anything, thinking that suspension would be a priority perhaps? Anyway, cheers for all the thoughts.

I always thought the suspension would need doing, but to be honest the balance of the chassis is so good I would not want to ruin it - and I've done 60k in mine.....

If you want to take it on track it certainly needs doing, but cross country lanes I would say just have more faith in it....

Interesting you say that. I have only been driving round for the last week in mine and tend to agree with you. The North Wales roads I drive every day are easily coped with and I enjoy the drive, rather than getting shaken to pieces. On the site, however, this appears to be a popular mod, which is why I mentioned it as an option.

So maybe you are right...remap, pads and beer, perhaps not neccesarily all at once :)

cheers

Brake wise, again, maybe I'm just a skinflint but I only did fluid and pads, and it was sufficient.

No fade, great stopping performance. DSC3000's are even better, but they are dusty, and they do squeak!

(and I *think* I drive mine hard enough)

Have any of the 4x4 owners on here had the custom exhaust fitted?

I now see why they call it the slippery slope :)

I see you have had your's lowered. Are you now happy with the spec of your car?

forgive my ignorance but could you tell me what the changed mounts do (gearbox and engine) for the car?

Cheers

Stuart_J has a custom exhaust on his 4x4 and I plan on getting one in the near future.

I'm happy with the combination of standard dampers with uprated H&R springs and it doesn't lower the car too much so rear camber is ok. The front ARB is worth while and I intend getting a rear ARB as soon as one is found that'll fit. I may also try S3 upper and lower strut braces at some point

I have both upper and lower uprated gearbox/engine mounts, they reduce engine movement which improves gearchanges, reduces 'jerkiness' and also cuts out wheel hop when doing standing starts. The lower one is well worth doinf as it's less than
