Tranny White Van

Featured Replies

Let me set the scene. Its the middle of the day. There is no fog, rain and the driving conditions are perfect. Im driving down a single carridge road with a 60mph speed limit following a bloke in a transit van doing 30mph. I wanted to do 60mph but could not get by because of traffic coming the opposite way, so i percevere doing 30mph. At the end of the road there is a roundabout which leads to a double carridge. So coming off the roundabout the car goes in the same direction of me in the left hand lane. So i put my foot down and went round him in the right hand lane doing 60mph. At the end of the road it goes back to single lane going into a 30mph residential area. So i merge in front of the van in no way cutting him up, or leaving him too little room to brake. In the 30mph zone the bloke in the van is flahing his lights at me and riding so far up my arse, nearly pushing me as i do the speed limit. At the end of the road i get in the right hand lane to go right and he pulls up in the left hand lane at the side of me. He winds his window down and gives me the gesture to do the same, so i do. He starts to tell me how bad a driver i am in a rather impolite way. Apparently he didn't want to do 30 because he was in a rush. I told him how i thought he had all the time in the world doing 30 in the 60 and that i had done nothing wrong. Am i right or am i a boy racer?

How long was this 60mph bit? I would expect you to put serious distance between you and van if it were anything decent. If you knew it was only 300 yards or something then I would have persevered some more until it was well clear to get past and make some headway. :)

A good 5 mins worth of driving. At 60mph more than enough time to get by imho

Just wondered how he caught up with you then? 5 minutes I would imagine would mean leaving a transit miles behind to be honest. :) and if he managed to catch up was there any need to overtake at all? Just wondering. :)

say no more white van man

van driver was a pr1ck

It's a limit, not mandatory to do 60.

To those of you that have not driven a Transit - bear with me . And if it's a Diesel Transit ,give me some more room . First of all - Transits are slow sluggish and need a lot of road tov get up too any spped . Then there's Diesels - 0-60 ,in about six days .You ain't got a throttle - just an "on/off switch"

So armed with info - go out and give anyone brave enough to drive one some space

Your firm must skimp on their engines. Never had any issues getting one to shift.

A sprinter is much better though, and likes being abused. B)

gonna say every transit Ive driven has been ace and fast. never had any trouble gettin up to speed lol.

agree a 330 sprinter wow they are bloody fast

My old transit 2.5d (non turbo) isnt that fast!! it will do 75mph......sits happily at 60mph,takes a while to get there though!! :)

Never had any problem getting any van to shift, even managed some 1st-2nd gear wheel spin in one.

Daniel - the driver was an unt©. Don't worry about it :)
