Oil Change

Featured Replies

Hi guys I have few quick questions

Today I changed the oil and oil filter plus sump plug.

-So first question is that I don’t have a torque wrench so I hand tighten the sump nut and then did a 90 degree turn. So will it be alright, it doesn’t leak tho

- Second question is that, since have changes the oil my car is smoking a bit more than usual. I have checked the oil levels and it is at the red line, but before i changed it was at the green line.

I've never used a torque wrench on a sump nut in my life and never had one leak. One problem I had on my Fabia sump nut was that I couldn't get the washer off the nut. I think a copper one would be better for sealing than the steel one that was on mine.

I've no idea about fabias but some engines will just burn off excess oil. I don't think its good for the catalytic converter though, might be an idea to drain a smidge.

According to the Haynes manual it should be 22 lb ft or 30 Nm. If you don't have a torque wrench, then use the German one - Good'n'tight. :giggle:
