Deleted the roof bars and did a Joey mod to the headlights. Sorry for the bad picture quality.

Looks cool with the yellow fog lights :)

What does the 'Joey mod' to the light consist of. They look great.

It consist of taking the lights apart and painting non reflecting surfaces black or in body colour. In this case i did both because i painted them with Black Magic colour. :)

Explained in urban dictionary: To disassemble one's Headlights in order to affect some cosmetic or functional change. The most common Joey Mod is painting the plastic housing that is visible behind the clear lens a different color-usually black.

Java, would you mind explaining what's required exactly for fitting a FL front bumper to a pre-fl? It looks epic...

I'm sure Java will confirm (I think he already has in the 'you're doing it right' thread) but it sounds like a serious pain in the bottom!

doh. This is the 'your're doing it right' thread

Took the Skoda on holiday to Tassie for 11 days and was very impressed by our 90TSI. Did almost 2000kms bringing the total milage to 5600kms.

Overall a fun trip, manages to stay right in the middle of the car district in both Hobart and Launceston, picked up some spares from a Jag mechanic down the road in Hobart and was across from a Mercedes/Subaru dealer in Launceston.

DaveyBoyWonder is right. I've explained it briefly here once and also i have sent Harry_vRS PM and Email about it. I suppose they haven't met the receiving end or i have messed something up... :wonder:

Briefly it requires this:

You have to get all FL parts that are related to the bumper: The bumper itself, fog lights, DRL lights, connectors for the fog lights and also for the DRL´s, mounting plastic things that hold the DRL´s and headlight washers, covers for the headlight washers and the headlight washers ofcourse and finally all the grilles (5 pieces of them).

Only part that i found second handed was the bumper, all the other parts i had to buy from the local Skoda dealer (€€€)...

Then you have to completely rebuild the part of the bumper that is below the headlights. This needs some plastic welding. Then to finish it off you need the FL bonnet grille and respray for the bumper and if you want, also for the grille surrounding.

DRL's are then coded to use fog lights via VCDS and you then have to connect the DRL's to the fog light wiring and add a resistor to prevent the blown bulb warning light. After that you have to build the wiring and relaying for the fog lights completely from scratch and add a hidden switch for them. This is if you want the lights to be road legal. Now the lightning works like this: lightswitch on 0-position the headlights are off, DRL´s, front and rear parking lights and registerplate lights are on. Then switching the lightswitch to "headlight" position all the other lights are on except the DRL´s. If you have the lightswitch that has the tunnel light position, the system changes automatically from DRL's to normal headlights as per current lightning.

This FL bumper fitting cost me atleast 1000€ (stopped counting at that point :) ) and i did all the work myself except for the painting. And there's no guarantee of those cost's and that i think scares people off from doing this...

And no post without a picture spam:

Dirty car, i know...

My PM inbox is full because I haven't renewed my freedom membership. Thanks for that detailed reply that's exactly the info I was after :)

Maybe if I can source the parts cheaply I'll give it a go.

Disgraceful! :)

Java, I like your car, very nice mods.

If you don't mind, after removing the roof bars how did you fill the holes?

There's no OEM way to do it so you have to use your imagination. So i ordered these plugs from http://www.ebay.de/i...984.m1497.l2649 and painted them in body colour. Then i glued them to the holes and it was done. If i sell the car some day, it's easy to remove the plugs and reinstall those roof bars.

The most OEM way would be welding those holes shut and painting those areas in body colour. I did't have the balls to go for it. :)

Thanks Java,

No welding for me as well .... I want to remove them roof bars but, like you with the option of reinstaling later, so plugs is my way to go.

I was wandering about vw caddy OEM roof rails pugs, maybe you were already looking to this option and is not working?

I need some Speedlines in my life!

I had no idea that caddy has those roof rail plugs and i did not look that option. You could check it out? It has to cover this type of holes:

The holes are not round. They are square with rounded edges and that makes it difficult to find plugs to cover them. :)
