sticking accelerator pedal

Featured Replies

I take it the VRS pedal cover needs to be swapped over to the new part?

  • 2 months later...

I have a "new" second hand 2016 Skoda rapid Spaceback automatic still under warranty.. Three times now when I have had to put my foot down hard on the accelerator for emergencies (police car, ambulance wanting to pass, fast arrival of truck on slip road ). The accelerator has jammed down, revving. The footbrake held the car but as soon as I took my foot off the brake it accelerated again . I turned the engine off as traffic around me stopped but it still started to move again  until I turned the engine off twice.
The car has been with the local dealer, who were not the people I bought it off-that garage has closed (for retirement not as dodgy dealer). It doesn't happen when they drive it and they say it does not show a fault on the computer. It is exceedingly frightening. The Skoda recovery/AA man suggested there was a catch that might be holding in kick-down mode.

I have a courtesy car now but does anyone have any ideas? Skoda HQ seem very concerned but my car is sitting around and the dealer can find nothing even though it has been in three times. I am frightened to drive it now.

Bidforester,

Welcome to the forum.

You have a Manufacturers warranty and the right to not kill anyone or yourself.

So you have a Safety Critical failure / fault.

Just dont accept the car until fixed properly.

Skoda UK Customer Services need to worry about you and the innocent not their hopeless Official Repairers or their Multi Million Budget resolving VW Cheats on Emissions.

Corporate Responsibility, they have your car now, if they give you it back still faulty & there is an accident / fatality they are up Sh!t Creak.

Skoda worrying about a courtesy car and a few hundred quid from the Insurance / Warranty Company VW own are just like them.

If you or the faulty car kill somebody they will have something to worry about.

@Bidforester - That sounds like a literally mechanical issue with the throttle assembly, so I wouldn't expect to find a fault code in the EMS!
