Hi guys whilst driving my 53 plate Octavia today all seemed to be fine until i slowed to a stop at a junction. Then when i tried to pull away the car would not move forward as if something was trapped under the front of the car so i selected reverse moved back then 1st again the car pulled off but now my gear box is very noisy and the off-side drive shaft is leaking oil (badly.... :'( ive read about diffs breaking and output bearings, but i wondered if you guys could shed some light on the possible problem the car still drives and selects all gears gears. Reverse is puting the engine under lots of strain........ the cars only done 45k any and all help would be greatly appreciated..........

sounds like possible syncro failure poss diff......

soon is never enough for my wife she wants it fixed tomorrow :( thanks for the offer if i cant sorce one quickly i may have to take you up on the offer ......

if it was syncro failure would i still be able to select all gears ? 45k and no premature warning seems a little strange...... dam cars caused me greif these past few weeks...

one thing to check first is the linkage as this can become out of alignment .

yes each gear has a set of synchros if one failes it can do that.

ive spent this evening clearing the garage to make room for the dreaded gearbox removal .Am i likely to come across any nasty removal proceedures any tips or guide lines avaliable ?

Hi all i didnt have to remove my gear box after all. After trying and failing to track down a 2nd hand EHA box ,i contacted my local VW mechanics they quoted me £350 to supply a recon box (exchange) or £450 supplied and fitted with 1 years warranty . I thought this was a great deal im happy and i aint got dirty doing the job....

although i could of done without forking out that sort of cash full stop.... :'(
