Fabia I Blue coolant refill ok ?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had my Fabia 1.4 MPI radiator changed yesterday. Obviously they had to drain out all the Red G12 coolant that was in there. But the garage put in Blue coolant instead of the G12 Red, saying it doesn't matter since the Red stuff has been fully drained out.

My question is, is the Blue coolant good enough or should I get them to drain it all out and put in the G12 coolant ? Does it actually make a difference for the Fabia 1.4 MPI ?

Thanks

You should always use G12 (Now called G12+) coolant, if there is any trace of the G12 left anywhere and there will be after radiator change then a chemical reaction takes place and could cause premature failure of things like the water pump. G12 and blue must never be mixed, and anyone familliar with this should refill with G12+.

G12 is what is recommended for VAG cars buddy - either the garage didn't know this or couldn't be bothered getting any.

Take it back and tell them that either they drain, flush, and refill with G12+ or equivalent instead of glycol, or you will go elsewhere, and get the new place to send them the bill.

I think you'll find the garage will try to reassure you it's perfectly fine and chances are you'll be :wall: Don't go to that garage again IMO! And even if they do they'll just drain it and then put G12 in which will probably be even worse. Noone can be ar**d to do a proper job these days. There's too many clueless garages out there :@ This is why it's better to do things yourself, at least you know it's been done properly.

I understand it creates a gunge? Would a thorough flush through help remove this effectively if such a reaction had taken place?
