My Skoda is stinky !

On various occasions normally after using the loud pedal an acrid smell of burning plastic or oil is smelt in the cabin.

Any ideas folks ?

Car is still under warranty but my stealer is crap ..

go to another dealer...why should you even have to think about it?

you have checked the obvious, oil, water levels?

have you opened the bonnet to check everything like the oil filler cap is in place?

does you see and smoke (white / blue oil smoke in particular) in the rear mirror

not had any warning lights?

recently serviced or topped your oil up?

how old is the car?

is it after prolonged use of the loud pedal

but i would also advise find another dealer, i have one bad and two good dealers in a 30 mile radius

your not clarkson in disguise are you? he always refers to the loud pedal, as accelerator is to big a word for him :)

I have checked under the bonnet yes. Nothing looks adverse. I am a verteran of 20+ year old French Turbo cars , so I dont mind getting my hands mucky , or having a poke around.

I dare say it smells like the turbo using oil ...

No fluid loss that I can tell. Only small bit of oil being used.

No obvious tell tales out of the exhaust either

No warning lights

Car is 2 years old

Tends to smell at startup , then after I press the loud pedal , once , or after a series of squirts.

I am from the same part of the Country as clarkson , but dont hold that against me !

Do you really have your own currency in the shape of car keys?

Do you really have your own currency in the shape of car keys?

Yes. But only if your wife is more attractive than mine :giggle:

Get it back to the dealers and make them do something about it. The key is don't take no for an answer!

To put it into perspective, this could be a major fault that could be putting your life at risk!

If they try and fob you off tell them to find the fault or you will go to trading standards. Get the name of the dealership owner and contact him direct. Threaten them with eveything you can til they sort it. If necessary say you will contact skoda direct in Czech Republic due to the fact that they are not fulfilling the warranty and you will contact Reinhard Jung who is the chairman of the board of directors at Skoda Auto (big cheif!).

my 2p's worth anyway. Can't abide stealers who won't deal with warranty issues!

Well, maybe. What do you think of her?

This car is going from bad to worse.

Faults that have been fixed :

Failed wheel bearing ( @ 22k miles )

Radio head unit

Radio base

Radio ariel

Still to fix

EGR - told TADTS at 1900 rpm. They all drop right off on power then pick up at 2050rpm - Right O ...

New faults

When cold starting , can hear turbo whistling until revved , then it stops

burning smell on hard acceleration / cold start

sticking rear pads , can actually hear car clunk when driving off

radio failed again

Really , Really had enough of this one.

sounds like a POETS day car, quite rare with a skoda from what i have seen and heard

i know you said car is 2 years old, how long you had it?

if not long could be worth getting trading standards involved (sale of goods / fit for purpose i think is tha relevant)

you are having problems with turbo and egr , both of these are controlled by a vacuum valve block assembly on the top of the drivers side inner wing, easy to spot, black box 3 x 4 x 1 inches with 6-7 small rubber pipes coming out

have a look and a sniff around there and see if you smell or see anything burnt, if not look at the wiring loom for it and follow the small rubber pipes coming out of it and make sure they are ok, not chaffing or against anything hot, they should be clipped up against the bulkhead and under the big rubber pipe from the egr valve down to the intercooler as well

if the solenoids for the valves are sticking, internal fault on this unit or you have problems with vacuum it may explain the issues you are seeing, are you having any problems with hard brake pedal ?

rear brakes binding seem to be a common issue but will be unrelated to your other problems, sticky caliper if disk or possible handbrake cable

I had a poke around the car last night. Then I decided to open the bonnet and check what you mentioned.

I cant see any obvious chaffing , or scorch marks on the items you mentioned :wonder:

I am going to get it booked into a better dealer than I have been using pronto ..

I bet it's the DPF unit - seems very similar to problems which friends have had on their DPF diesels (FIATS and Vauxhalls). This is the main reason why I chose petrol. If you (or the previous owner) don't do enough miles at 50/60 mph the DPF's can clog up after a while and then create a burning smell while the engine tries it's best to burn it clean.

I'm pretty certain that the 1.4 and 1.9 tdi don't have a DPF, they were fitted in the rest of Europe or an option. The new 1.6 in the facelift does have it. The only version I'm aware has a DPF is the 1.4 TDI PD 80 in the Fabia Greenline. Unless you mean the EGR valve which seems to give a great deal of trouble on most diesel engines

From what I've picked up in other threads, I'm sure all the Diesels except the 1.4 PD 70 have the DPF.

according to the manual , and cross doing it to the engine code , there is no DPF on my model , and IIRC none on any UK based cars.

I must add that Bickertons Skoda in Sheffiled have been ultra helpful in trying to cure the problems.

The power cut is not detected in their confuser systems , they arent doubting me but they cannot detect it.

All other problems have been rectified or are due to be with its 3 day stay there.

Very happy with Bickerton indeed.
