Replaced buld, now no light at all.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im hoping this is something simple...

firstly, What are the correct names for the bulbs? I call them:

High Beam (one you flash to let people out)

Main beam. bright ones you put on while driving at night.

side lights. ones that come on with the dash board lights.

My Main beam bulb went out and I got the warning light on the dash. The side light still worked. So I bought the new bulb, Just a cheap one from Halfords for about £6)

I read through this guide http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/51592-changing-fabia-headlight-bulbs-tips/

And had a look at the car, it seemed simple enough and I could fit my hands in to undo the spring, so I went ahead and swapped it out without to much trouble.

Now the main beam and side lights don't work at all work on the drivers side.

I have plugged the light in with the spade connector thing This seemed to be the only connection, and I cant see any other wires not connected.

Is it possible to blow a fuse on one side of the lights? Any Ideas?

Cheers

I should be,

Side Lights, then

Dipped headlights, then

Main beam.

Just to clarify things a bit, your comments should read:- High or Main beam - the one you flash with and use when driving faster on an open road with no oncoming traffic Low or Dipped beam - the one you use when driving with reduced visability or when dark (this one will not cause oncoming traffic to be dazzled.

Back to your original problem, I take it that you have replaced a low beam bulb, take it back out and check the side light bulb in case you have broken it, then switch on the sidelights with the low beam bulb out - what happens now - if nothing then replace this sidelight bulb and see what happens.

I have plugged the light in with the spade connector thing This seemed to be the only connection, and I cant see any other wires not connected.

Cheers Guys.

Baffoon award goes to me... :S

Yes, its the dipped beam that went.

After going back to do a bit of testing as rum4mo suggested, I realised that I was replacing a working main beam with another working main beam.

So in my tinkering I appears that the sidelight has stopped working as well now.

I need to buy the correct bulb or bulbs first and have another go!

Hopefully I will have success next time!

At least I have a spare main beam bulb now ;o)

Thanks for the replies
