Golf mk 2

Featured Replies

Just had a ride in a mk 2 golf with a 20 valve turbo engine in it , bloody quick to say the least , traction was an issue tho .

Still in the finishing stages , they had just put the dash back in , apparently when the abs is sorted then the traction control will help .

Dont follow that sorry , a good mate has put a 1.8 turbo in an old mk2 golf , goes well , very well , lol.

I bet it flies!!

Was watching VW Cup racing a few months ago. All classes of VW's Golfs, Sciroccos, Caddy Van!! Passat etc etc. Guess what won by a country mile? MK2 Golf with a 1.8T engine. Outclassed everything.

Sounds like fun B)

The son of my old boss once shoehorned a VR6 lump into his Mk2 Golf. That was entertaining...and man alive, the noise! :D

Yeah awesome sounds from a MK2, but a VR6 in a MK2 shell can make it a little too nose heavy and leave the rear twitchy. Not something you want on a car that is prone to lift off oversteer, unless you really know how to drive. The 1.8T is lighter and more tuneable. Sadly I was modding Golfs before the 1.8T was even available :( If only..

Yeah, to be honest I think it was just a point 'n squirt pose machine really...it did shift on the straights though :giggle:

I've seen a VR6 lump shoehorned into a Polo, that looked mental. But i wasn't too impressed with its acceleration if im honest.

The understeer must be horrendous , i once drove a mk1 escort with a 3ltr essex engine in it , it was well scary in the damp , would turn , just went straight on

I never followed him to any corners with it, i didnt fancy seeing the outcome.

Knowing the driveshafts had been cut and welded to suite, im not sure how it got through a MOT!

Especially when the Polo GTI shafts were supppose to have fitted without a problem, i think it was for more Show and Noise than actually performing well. As the mapped PD105 wasn't being shown up too much in a short stint.
