Fabia power steering pump

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. My power steering pump on my Fabia appears to have gone (it doesn't do anything when you put some current across it) so I'm after getting a new one.

It's only a 2001 model so I'm reluctant to spend too much on it. The cheapest I've found new is £265 +vat from GSF, although I've been having a look on ebay and have managed to find a couple of cheaper second hand ones.

While I'm waiting for the auctions to end I'm planning on phoning round some scrappers to see if they've got one (I made a start this morning but no joy so far. It seems that everyone must want one because a couple of places have had Fabias but the pump had already gone).

The part number I was given by the main dealer was 6R0 423 156A and I was told that these pumps are also used for the Lupo, Fox, Polo, Ibiza, Cordoba and Fabia so do the good people on the forum reckon I should phone round the scrappers and see if they've got any of the cars I've listed, rather than just restricting myself to looking for a Fabia?

I just want to make sure that if I pull one off a Lupo or something that it should fit. I've noticed the part numbers don't always exactly match - the last few digits are often slightly different. If the 6R0 423 bit is the same, does it mean it's basically the same pump?

How does this sound for a plan? Any thoughts would be much appreciated as I'm getting a bit stuck.

Thanks.

Andy.

Fabia 1.4 Classic 3 wobbly wheels and no steering : )

If you don't mind a 2nd hand one, then try Skospares/Roadside Rescue. They are a specialist Skoda breakers yard.

I've used them before to buy a wiper motor. You order and pay for the parts over the phone.

Had a door from them which was good apart from the courier dropping it.

Heard things about the pumps ECU being stored on the pump itself, and surrounded by foam/insulation. Water can then get into it and effect the ECU or something, so buy 2nd hand with caution, esp. if the car is semi-broken/stripped of body work already or been standing.

mine leaks, when empty no power steering obviously I just keep topping it up a real pain due to its location and when parking leaving oils slicks didn't think to look at a polo for one when i was in the scrappers the other week
