312mm Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi,

My pads and discs need replacing shortly, so I thought now would be a good time to look at how much extra it would cost to upgrade to 312mm.

While searching the forum, the link which seems to give you a pictorial guide and lists all the parts required is broken and I can't find it, even with searches.

Can anyone give me an idea of how much more than OEM replacements I'm looking, what parts are required apart from pads & discs, (calipers possibly?)

and if the job is relatively easy or have an updated location for the broken link above?

Cheers All.

Thanks, that's great !

As a follow on, is the only parts required 312mm Carriers, Discs & pads?

Sadly "GolfTurbo" doesn't have any kits remaining :-(

On the Fabia vRS you need the calipers as well as your standard ones are Lucas but the ones you need for the 312 conversion are ATE.

Thanks Peter.

I'm now slightly confused as "GolfTurbo" said I didn't :)

You will very much need new calipers for 312's.

the standard 288mm calipers are not big enough to accomodate the larger discs

and i had one of the last sets from "GolfTurbo" and it deffo had calipers in it - how odd.

I think the reason that ''GolfTurbo'' is saying that you don't need calipers is because that was on the Golf forum, and golfs have the correct 312mm calipers - just fitted with different carriers. For us with Fabia's the whole caliper/carrier is needed to convert

312's

Natural finish!

And a tin of this!

Before I converted, I spoke to JKM, and was informed that the original calipers would fit, but needing a special carrier to create the correct spacing.

TBH, I think that the piston has to be larger on the 312 calipers, which will increase stopping power (I presume!).

However, I didnt put this to the test as I bought a complete system from another member on here.

Think it cost me about £300 for the conversion. £150 for calipers and carriers, £90 for a pair of OEM Brembo's, about £35 for pads and a stupid amount for genuine Audi TT brake hoses which probably weren't necessary.

FYI i think i paid approx £200 for Calipers, Carriers, New Drilled disks (not by choice but came with the deal) and Pads. I paid for TPS OEM pads @ £40 extra

The difference is night and day, feel, stopping power and confidence is now amazing!

I have some very nearly new 312 pads (uprated but i'm unsure which company) siting in my garage..... You can have them for P & P just PM me

Cheers

I got mine from TTshop calipers and carriers £150 and the difference is amazing i dunno how anyone drives with the standard brakes anymore lol

These might be worth a look:

Absolute bargain if you ask me. You will need the calipers if fitting to a Fabia vRS.

Well £75 for 312 carriers and calipers, it might be worth registering which is free. Definitely worth a look.
