How long were you without your monster for the repair?

I think it is a little sad that this argument is being personalised.

The halogen bulbs such as the Ring Xenon Max +100% are still rated at 60/55 Watts so the power output is no greater than the OEM bulbs. Better use is made of the power available.

There is a recognised claim that HID lamps can cause dazzle. Perhaps that point of view should be respected.

There are people who like HID and those who don't. It maybe that I am sensitive to the bluer output of the HID lights but that does not warrant anyone calling me hypocritical just because they don't agree with me.

:bearhug::D I am very sorry if you feel that a post was personalised, my intention is to highlight some hypocrisy in choice of equipment and not to provoke any indignant outrage. I deliberately left you name unmentioned on this occasion because I know that you appear sensitive to disagreement. However you supported a stance against glare in another post proclaiming your dislike of OEM HID while at the same time potentially adding twice the glare to your own vehicle. You surely must accept that Halogen lights do cause glare and that increasing the brightness will also increase the amount of glare proportionally. That halogen technology is not as advanced in safeguarding against glare as it is with HID, that is, better optics, automatic levelling and power wash wipe. You must forgive me, perhaps you have already installed some of this technology because of you concern for other road users. I accept that your illegal use of fog lights is due to your feelings that the halogen lighting is insufficient and that you take precautions not to blind other road users by turning hem off if you can at the first instance. Perhaps it was an ill advised economy and that OEM HID Bi Xenon lights with the cornering fog might have been the better choice

I do not like halogen now, it is old hat, outdated and believe that all cars should be sold with HID equipment installed at the factory with all the safety equipment associated with it. I do believe in adopting newer technologies where appropriate proof of its benefits have been qualified and accepted. When equipment becomes available that might make HID even safer, then it should be taken on board and if possible retrofitted if legal to do so, in order that the very small numbers of people who might have an eye problem that might make them overly sensitive can begin to drive in comfort. I think that for people with degraded or defective eyesight that they would be better served by specifying HID lights for them selves, in order that they can see properly and so make the roads safer for the rest of us.

I remember adverse Luddite comments when halogen became more wide spread. Some people were still clinging on to the old tungsten’s, they preferring obviously to struggle on in the dark.

I think they need it for about two hours - They picked mine up about 10am and brought it back about 3pm - super service.

I have forgoten now whatexactly the problem was. Is it that they were failing to ignite properly? I am glad to hear that it has been rectified anyway.

It's interesting to read about various people being more sensitive to HID bulbs. Xenon bulbs were originally developed by Osram in the 1940's and used in cinema projectors, my understanding was that the light produced by Xenon bulbs was closer to daylight than either Tungsten or Halogen. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that their application in cars was as a response to the generally ageing population.

A headlight was failing on Auto. You had to stop, take the keys out, start up again then the headlight would work as it should.

To paraphrase this thread:

some people like HID lights

some people don't like HID lights

some people fit extra power H7 bulbs

some people are happy with the Yeti lights as they are

some people can spell

some people can't

some people like Marmite

some people don't.

Does anyone want to argue with that??

See you round the back of the bike sheds later!!

A discussion on HID is not annoying if factual information is brought forward that is pertinent to the topic so that we can have a better understanding.
