Curiosity got the better of me - Instrument cluster

Featured Replies

Had this lying around (Is actually on Ebay at the moment so will need to ensure it goes back together again nicely :giggle: )

It's a fabia SDI instrument cluster, and I just felt like taking it to bits and seeing how it ticked.... so to speak.

Was easy to take apart and the needles just popped off a spindle, so could easily colour the tops of them in red for that "vRS" look, if you really wanted. Was fascinated by the LED setup, and how all the warning light is, is a light being passed through a small film to flash up the symbol.

Time top put it back together again now!

do you reckon you could put a sheet of coloured film ( like what quality street is wrapped in) behind the dial panel to change the colours of the lights? always thought about doing it, dont know if it would work though!

From looking at it, I would say so. But you wouldn't be able to change the light - merely mix in a colour to the original light (so I assume a red film behind the engine light would produce a pink engine light! :giggle: ) - Would brown with the blue make a purple main beam light??

I always liked the old blue/red instrument lighting of the VW's...

i also like the blue lights from the vw look better at night than the green

Everyone's different, I guess - I found the blue of Ford's Fiesta strained my eyes, whereas the green of the Fabia is much easier to look at...

you could make a collage of all different coloured film, put it behind and have rainbow coloured instrument lights!
