My take on tyres is maybe a little different than most peoples'. I had the car specced with 16 inch moon alloys and ordered the car deliverd with Goodyear winter tyres in the standard 215/60 size and speed rating. I did not want the wider wheels for winter, as winter driving requires a narrower tyre, and the 205 mm wide thread is already quite wide.

The Goodyear SuperGrips have proven very capable snow and wet winter weather rubber, and are surprisingly quiet as well as handling well on dry roads at speed. Down here in Southern Spain, they do seem a little sloppy as the rad surfaces warm up - higher slip angle than ideal for dry roads, particularly in summer and at high speed.

I am now fairly convinced that summer rubber will be 225/50 -17", as they will be stiffer due to buóth the slightly wider thread and the shorter sidewall, combined with a rather high load factor - which again stiffens thigs up. Cornerig accuracy should be better.

The wheel choice at the mo' is Annapurna BLACK, a the black saves a lot of cleaning and Goodyear Optigrip tyres, as they are made in the right size and rating and (I predict) will be the highest rated tyre in the ADAC wet performance test this spring. I prefer the best rated wet performance, as that is where you are most likely to be in trouble at speed. I do not mind giving away a little dry preformance, as you are less likely to be pushing the adhesion limits on a dry road.

All the electronic and mechanical wizardry on the SM driveline makes you go, when other get stuck. When the **** really hits the fan, only adhesion between tyre and surfaces is important. Exceeed this and no Haldex, ABS etc. will save you. Best possible power transfer between four little patches of road and wheel is paramount in difficult (mostly wet and slippery) conditions, hence my choice.

Hasta Luego, Amigos.

Dunno why I never get the sizes right the first time.

The Plumber,

Just a thought. In the survey we have a vote for wheels for the SE and the Elegance that is two votes bit we only have a vote for one tyre. I would like to suggest that we have an addition vote for a tyre. That is a tyre choice for the SE and a Tyre choice for the Elegance.

Hi Anthony,

unfortunately limited to three questions a topic pole, hence listing all the tyres together; great suggestion though.

Hi All

I have just gone for the standard wheels on my SE.

Am I correct in thinking that the Dolomites come with 225/50 17 94W tyres.

I assume these are summer tyres.

Cananyone tell me what is the standard tyre make for UK 17" 94W wheels?

Cheers, Dave

Yes, they are summer tyres. I believe Skoda fit either Dunlop SP Sport 01, Pirelli P Zero Rosso or Goodyear Excellence. All the demonstrators I drove had the Dunlops fitted.

My snowmonster's shoes are Pirelli P Zero Rossos , grip noise and ride all seem to be good , not unleashed him in the wild as yet so can't comment re mud capabilities and an inch or two of snow is all we get in the Great Smoke.

thanks guys for replies and thanks for the link TP.

Cheers
