I have no idea

Featured Replies

Brought a fabia 2 days ago i think its great. I want to make this clear ive only ever owned 1.2 fiats and other smaller engined cars before so i really dont know if the car isnt running as powerfull as it should. Also never owned a turbo engine.

As far as i know the car is standerd brought from dealership. Heres a few questions.

1. when i first start it up and leave it idleing a highish pitch whistling sound appears when i rev the engine slightly it goes but when back at idle comes back any help would be good.

2 when i put my foot down to overtake another words put a good load on the engine in say third or fourth another shakey whilstling noise appears is this the turbo doing its job or not?

Many thanks

either turbo bearings or boost leak..

If you bought this from a dealer I'd take it back and get it looked at ASAP. If there is a fault with the turbo they should sort it out, regardless of whether or not there was a warranty with the car

Should the turbo be making any sounds??

Barely audible with the windows up!

But a pleasant little whistle under low revs with the windows down!

Yeah mate I wouldn't worry at all.

Mine makes the same gentle constant whistle when running idle for any length of time.

I like the sound. Reminds me theres a TURBO in there..... Mwahahahaha! :D

Welcome to Brisky by the way James. Lots of good people on here mate.

I also get a little chirp just as the turbo really kicks in. Like a single final tweet from a

bird you have for some reason smothered with a pillow.... Then if the window is open you can

hear the high pitched fast whistle of the turbo as you accelerate... I LOVE IT!!

As stated previously, you can't really hear the turbo with the windows up. With the windows down at idle, if you depress the throttle slightly you should hear a low whistle as the turbo starts to spool. Put your foot down in third or fourth I wouldn't imagine you'd be able to hear the turbo whistle above the engine noise even with the windows down and you certainly shouldn't feel anything shaking.

The engine doesn't make anymore noise at 2000r pm in 3rd than it does at 2000 rpm in 1st ;) If you are travelling close by to anything, a wall for instance then you will still hear the turbo coming on at the higher speed, I would describe it more as a warble than shaky though, if you are worried get it checked or try another example (test drive at another dealers?) to put your own mind at rest.

Don't forget this guy is coming from a petrol background...

The shaking is almost certainly vibration from the fairly unrefined 8v diesel engine

being revved hard. It might seem disconcerting when you're used to whiny little

fiats...

Fix

It

Again

I have been having these noises for the last year. Nothing has gone pop yet and it has been checked for boost leaks. From what I have read on here the whistle on idle is the egr.

mine whistled all the way up to 80k without dying, and I had the cheap resister mod on for 50k of that! lol..... the fiat has whistled all the way up to 95k so far without breaking :)

Don't really notice any whistle on mine when giving it beans, but letting off the accelerator with the windows down gives a nice whistle :p

As far as I'm aware when the car has been idling for a couple of minutes a valve opens and it does definitely whistle. It's really noticeable at drive throughs and in traffic. If you just touch the throttle it will go away immediately.

The other noise doesn't sound like a noise I'm familiar with so, purely for you own peace of mind, I would suggest you get someone to look at it for you. Prevention is always better than cure.

Have you checked all your various belts are tight? Mine had a slipping drive belt somewhere and that gave a little chirp every time I put my foot down. It took the dealer about 5 minutes to make it go away. Your remap may be giving you something different, but I've had PD110 and PD130's for years and the turbos don't chirp. My old SAAB 99, now that chirped all right B)

I've just been for a blat down to Rayleigh to meet my powder coater in person.

Mrs Grr dropped off and picked up my strut brace so I

didn't get to meet the guy.

As always I had a blast driving my furby there as it hasn't been off the drive for a fortnight.

Drive my works van most of the time. I still get a thrill from driving my VRS. I particularly enjoyed

it today as it was my maiden voyage with the strut brace fitted.

There is definitely a slightly sharper steering response and to me, more noticeably the car felt

more stable under braking. Enjoy your Furby mate, You'll be modding before you know it...
