what speed rating is recomended for the winter tyres?

Depending on size and availability you could start with T (up to 190km/h) or H (up to 210km/h).

Load index is more important, should suit the car.

I use V index (up to 240km/h) as I use the speeds more than often.

Could you get away with a 7Jx16 rim on a FL VRS? Seem to more of those on eBay than 6J or 6.5J. Tyre would still be 205/55/16 and I suppose rim would still be ET50. Any views?

I bought a set of Audi A4 7Jx16 (apparetly they came off a 2005 model) - I think thay are called Trapez. (£63 on eBay which I guess was a lucky last minute bid to secure).

Anyway, they are ET42 offset and I now have them on my L&K TDi with a set of part (hardly) worn Dulop Winter M3 205/55/16 tyres.

I will post an image shortly of them on the car .

Total cost was £293.00.

John.

What's the difference between 6J & 6.5J and will it make a lot of difference?

I've found a set of 4 VW steelies for £120.

Hi

If that is the VW transporter virtually new wheels (6.0J x 16, ET50) (link below) then I got a set of these and they fit perfectly on the 2010 FL Octavia VRS. Ordered on the Sunday and they arrived on the Wednesday. Well worth the money.

Check the Autoexpress reviews on tyres (link in the winter tyres sticky) and see that the Nokian is quite low on the list - I got Continentals from Kwik Fit at the weekend for around £61 each fitted to the loose wheels - put them on the car myself and they are very good, so good I got a set for my astravan as well. You may have difficulty getting 195 tyres as the most common are 205 seemingly - I got the 205x55x16 for both the car and the van.

Cheers

Dave

Hi

If you use the tyre selector, put in 205x55x16 and h speed rating - the next page should list a few tyres.

Untick the summer tyres checkbox and you should be left with the Continental WinterContact tyres - they are listed as £81 odd each and on the next page it adds £9.50 per wheel for valve and balance.

I called my local place and he said if I printed the page and brought it in with me with the loose wheels, he wouldnt charge for the valve and balance and would honour the online price.

When they were on, he gave me a further discount and it was £244 for the 4 Continentals.

I went back the next day and got 4 for my astravan - as the wheels were on the van, they had to add the £9.50 per wheel but gave me the tyres at the same price - £282 all in.

I would check with your local kwikfit or phone round - see if any will give you a deal.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that will mean no winter tyres available in the size you searched on.

no searched the size stated about by FatblokeVRS so that size should have winter ones

Hi

Just checked kwikfit site - the page has changed and the summer and winter check boxes are gone.

I assume that they have no winter tyres left for online ordering.

You could try phoning kwikfit branches as they may still have some on the shelf.
