Water induced problem?

Featured Replies

Driving to work on the wonderful Oxfordshire roads, I ended up hitting a couple of really substantial puddles, including one half way round a roundabout. Lots and lots of water....

When I arrived at work, I tried to lock the car with the remote. Nothing. Wouldn't lock, wouldn't unlock the hatch. Great.

I don't think its the remote battery - was working fine when I left home. So I suspect that one of the puddles I've hit has got water where it shouldn't. I hope it may dry out (or drain away), but can anyone tell me where I should be looking if I need to try and fix this? Everything else seems to be working, and I have been able to lock and unlock the car using the key (first time I've done that since I bought it, almost a year ago).

Paul.

All the central locking modules are inside the car, so I would say coincidence is trying to fox you. Try the remote battery first, or spare remote if you have one.

Thanks for the reply. I tried it again about an hour after I arrived at work - whatever the problem, it seems to have cured. The remote is working again.

I assumed that the sensor(s) would be inside. I wondered if I'd got water onto a loom somwhere which was causing the problem. The second puddle (hit on the drivers side, half way around a roundabout, no way to avoid) was pretty deep - even with the wipers on intermtent, I had to come to an almost complete stop, it threw so much water onto the windscreen.

:giggle: For a while, I thought I might be using the Skoda rescue (all of 12 days before it runs out.....).

Maybe I need to invest in some WD40 and give things a bit of a treatment.

Lucky escape I think  Glad it sorted itself. Modern cars are way too complex for their own good, or owners peace of mind.
