Hard ride

Featured Replies

Just to ask I have a Superb Elegance with 18" wheels. I have noticed that the ride seems quite hard, we owned a MK1 Superb which had a lovely comfy ride but this car takes a bit of getting used to. Is it just the way the car is now made and set up or the wheels? Would like to know. Thanks

I think you will find it is the 18" wheels and tyres, I also had a Mk I with 16" wheels, these were not such low profile and cushioned the ride a lot more, they are also quieter.

has the supplying dealer removed the suspension packing blocks, it has been known to be left in My superb on 18s seems no different to my octy which had 16s on.

When placing an order for the superb combi, i was advised by dealer not to upgrade to 18" wheels, and rather to leave the 17" on the car, as the ride would be harder on the larger wheels. they have actually got their demo model in on 16", which don't look that bad at all. So in the end i just upgrade to callisto alloys in 17"

My Elegance on 18" gives a much harder ride than my old Octy II Elegance. I got the car a year old, so can't believe that the transport blocks are still there. It needs to go in and have the fog lights done since they are full of water so I was planning to get them to take a look at the suspension then.

My Superb is on 18's and the ride is far superior to my previous Octy L&K.

Might I add that the Superb 2 is quite nimble in the bends for its size and if it had soggy soft suspension it would fare pretty badly in the handling ratings.

Possibly it is a bit quieter on 17's but the difference is not that great.

definate the 18"wheels are make for a firmer ride my supa came with 17" and i changed to try 18" for looks and feel , definate looks better with 18" but very stark difference in lumber comfort stick to the 17" as the 16" to small just looks rediculous

With 94 rated 16" tyres my Superb handles and rides virtually identically to my Octy on 16" wheels and 91 rated tyres.

Body control is very good considering the physical size and weight of the Superb.

I've just raised a similar thread, I have the Superb Elegance on 18 inch rims and the ride is ridiculously hard on uneven surfaces. When I tested the car it seemed ok( mostly motorway) but over potholed roads it is too hard. In fact it is spoiling my enjoyment of the car which is superb in every other aspect. When I tested the car and collected it I'm sure the dealer lowered the tyre presures to improve the ride and when I inflated tio correct pressure it soon became apparent that the ride is not good on large rims. The car looks fantastic, though, which is small comfort. I'm thinking of getting some 16 inch rims and tyres, which may look ridiculous but will make the car a lot more comfortable.

It depends on what style wheel you get in the 16", I have seen a new superb combi in ambition spec, on 16" wheels, and I honestly have to say, they don't look too bad at all, and having taken it out on a drive, cannot fault the ride quality, this would be through an industrial estate,as well as over B class roads.
