Bolero radio problem

Featured Replies

hi my bolero radio is showing ant 1 no signal and ant 2 very good signal

Hi walshyg

This could be a problem with the antennas (aerials) rather than the Bolero itself.  On FM it uses both the roof mounted rod AND the heated rear windscreen.  It can rapidly and seamlessly switch between them to choose the best signal and avoid dropouts, a scheme called diversity.  I don't know which one is labelled Ant 1 and Ant 2, but suggest you check by unscrewing the roof rod.  If reception stops completely and it says Ant 1 no signal and Ant 2 no signal then its the heated screen aerial (or its cabling) that has a problem.  If reception doesn't change and it continues to say Ant 1 no signal, then the problem is with the roof rod (water ingress ?) or its cabling.

I thought it was only DAB equipped Bolero and Amundsen infotainment units that used the heated rear window aerial.

A lot depends on the model of vehicle, age, spec etc. But all VAG FM radios use diversity switching, one antenna usually on the roof and another in usually the rear screen. If the vehicle has a roof FM antenna then DAB can also be built into that antenna (or in the rear screen sometimes). Some vehicles with panoramic sunroofs don't get a roof antenna at all. Short answer, anything goes I guess.

My 2013 Elegance only has the then standard FM/AM radio. Could the problem be related to a faulty heated rear window? I only ask because some while back I had to have my rear window replaced and the "wrong" one went in. I only realised there was a problem because the radio reception was dreadful and intermittent. The screen was replaced with the right one, which apparently had a third contact, and all was well. This time of year with no reason to use the heated rear window you wouldn't be aware if it had developed a fault which might then affect radio reception.
