my new plans

Featured Replies

well as you might have noticed the vRS is being reverted to standard to make way for wo new cars.

The first will be a diesel estate, but enough about that as it wil be insanely boring.

the second will very likely unless i change plans be a renault sport clio(either 172 or 182)

I couldnt belive how cheap the RS clios are to buy low miliage ones all over the shop for sub £4k. They are so unbelievably cheap for parts and consumables as well.

So once i get it, im going to strip it out and use it as a road legal track day special. Ive been having a foray around the forums looking for the best mods and things to do.

heres some of what i have initially planned

Operation weight loss

1-Strip out all interior except the dash(including all roof lioning carpets, door cards etc - and its all free to do

2-Fit lightweight bucket seat/ seats

3-lightweight plastic windows (can be done for less than £250-excluding the windscreen)

4-lightweight wheels (set of 4 TD po race 1.2 15" alloys can be had for £330)

5-remove power steering

6-remove air con

handling

7- KW coilovers,

8-Rear ARB

and after all of that it'll be onto the power.. it seems

9-remap/exhaust/filter

then track days to death

then once i get bored of the power, theres alwaysthe option of fitting a turbo, throttle bodies or a supercharger. :o

my aim is a track day weapon with a power to weight of 190/tonne which should be about 182HP/950kg

anybody on here experience with clios on track???

Think soot1e has just got one, but think it is too early to have been used in anger.

My furby should be around 250hp per ton soon :D

Paul from RS Tuning has a supercharged clio 182 that is completely stripped in a similar way to which you have described. I'm informed it's something rather special :)

they 172 engines arnt that responsive to tuning TBH.

remap exhaust matched inlets and intake will gain you 10Hp.

running throttle bodies should put you 205Hp-----------------------=215Hp/ton

running the supercharge they are making 250Hp------------------=263Hp/ton

but for the above your looking ay 3-4k which is alot of cash for not much return

so the opions are there power wise, but im going for the handling and chuckability factor first. much more cost effective
