strange noises

Featured Replies

Hello , i am new to the forum as i have recently acquired my first Skoda , its a 1999 Octavia , i am happy with the car apart from a couple of strange noises that i was hoping someone on the site could help me pin down, the first noise is the motor seems to get loud and then go quiter again when idling ,its not racing just seems to get a bit louder and then drop again , the other noise is when moving off from stopped you quite often get a loud deep kind off ratchety noise coming from under the central console ,i dont know if this has something to do with the handbrake, any advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome :)

What engine do you have?

Is your air filter secure?

The noise when pulling away could be CV joints.
