Wandering if anyone can enlighten me....

Standard oct vrs runs a 205/50/17 and something like 2.1 bar front 2.3 rears...

So seeing as i have 225/45/17 how much should i be filling them with?

Asked skoda they said go away non standard tire size!! Help i don't want to kill tires that cost me 90quid a corner!!

Use the recommended pressures for starters. (There is no 'book' answer.)

If the tyre wall is the same size, and the wheels are the same size, then i would assume you should use the same pressure.

After all the tyres are carrying the same loading.

There is quite a bit of variance between half load, full load, winter and summer pressures anyway, so sorry to say but - Near enough is good enough!

I was planning on checking my tyre preasure at the weekend. Are the pressure gauages in bar aswell as psi?

The one i use at sainsburys is switchable from Bar to PSI. I think the inside of the fuel cap only gives Bar if im correct.

Yes you are!

Tyre pressures change as temperature changes. I know this sounds sad but I have a chart listing what pressure the tyres have in dependant on ambient temperatures (providing the car has not recently been driven). Usually run mine at 32psi all round at 5 deg c, increasing by 1psi for every 5 deg c increase in temperature. Seems to work fine , maybe a bit of a firm ride but handles well. Have not noticed any uneven wear etc. This is only my opinion though

225/45/17s 31psi front 30psi rear thats what i'm told

I run mine with roundabout 32psi to 33psi ....

They did about 8.000miles and they show

no unusual wearout .

But now they hilbernate in the cellar

i had to have 2.6 bar front, 2.4 bar rear, anything lower and i would get uneven wear. Mind you this was in winter -5 to 10 C. This was with 225/45 17". I have noticed that the TDI's are real heavy in front makeing the suspension go real low (TDI engine + sump guard + driver). The rear seems like it has no weight at all.

Us caravan tuggers have the same problem with older caravans because the information is often not available:

One of the specialist mags said that:

"In the absence of advice from the caravan or trailer manufacturer, consult Michelin quoting the exact tyre dimensions, (including the Load index) and giving the actual axle load being carried by these tyres,"

You know the weight of the car and the other information is on the tyres. give it a go. in this case Mitchellin were very helpful

Odd. Mine only shows pressures in KPa.

So does mine! Does enyone know how to convert from KPa to Bar/PSI as I've never found a machine that has KPa on it. I tend to put in 30 PSI for front and 31 for back but would love to know what I'm supposed to run std tires at

32psi in all of em, as recommended by my mate at national tyres... he knows his beans as well.
