Featured Replies

Can any one explain to me what if any thing does a new, more expensive dump valve does? Also is a atmospheric dump valve to chavy now days or is ok to have one? If its worth getting one could some one give a site to have a look, i know that forge have discontinued a few of theirs.

Noooooo!

Don't do it.....

On a diesel it is even more naff...

Just my opinion but valid none the less...

James, you seem to be looking at all the wrong components today.

Do a search and see what does work :)

Fair one ill scratch that if i could delete the post i would.

If you want a dump valve for your vRS, then don't bother. If you do a search you will find they simply will not work on a Diseasel. I've written a few answers to Newbies, like yourself, about them.

Ah well. live and learn I guess :)

i love dump valves! i smile everytime without fail when i hear one! with the occasional fist thrown in the air

although i would never put one on a diesel a decent turbo petrol i would. i dont care if thier chavvy.

out of interest why do some chatter and others just dump?

I think the "chatter" is caused by the wastegate, i.e. "wastegate chatter". You can not get this with a vRS because the turbo is different. It does not have a wastegate, it has variable inlet guide vanes to control the boost.

If you have a car with a large enough turbo you can get what is referred to as turbo chatter. It's basically when the dump valve cannot vent the excess pressure fast enough and back flow air pressure pushes back onto the fins of the turbo (the wrong way) and makes the "dee dee doooooh" sort of noise. It's also referred to as turbo stall.

There is an example of it here on a video of my old Supra (noise is at 6:10)

Thank god. Everyone says this noise is waste gate chatter.. It's not.. It's the air not being dumped quick enough, reverting back into the compressor and getting chopped by the compressor blades causing compressor stall :)

Rant over.

That was a better explanation than mine.

This is why I had Jabbasport remap my car, they know what they are talking about ;)
