Mazda 6 MPS

Featured Replies

Thinking about picking up another motor, and amongst other things (535D, R32, C90) I have been considering a Mazda 6 MPS, anybody have real experience of these things? I have seen the topgear reviews and had a look on the net and cant see much downsides to them.

someone on here owned one for a while (can't remember who) think one of the only downsides was that it was so easy to go so fast that there was a danger of loosing his liscence! lol... think he may have said a bit unexciting as well... was a while ago...

rather rapid car, nearly replace my diesel mazda 6 with one, very well equipped, good Q car, handling isnt on par with the likes R32 and isnt involving but a very nice car to drive. go and have a test drive and see for yourself :)

Royston had one... he rated it quite highly. tis a fast comfortable cruiser rather than a backroad blaster... downsides are they are thirsty compared to rivals (youll struggle to get much more than 30-32mpg on a run, and 23mpg avg) and also the dreaded 420quid tax bracket..

oh and they are also prone to breaking rear diff mounts if your a bit too enthusiastic off the lights.... unlike the VAG version of the haldex this system biases power to the rear when acellerating.

Yeah Pitt VRS had one but sold it because he said it was too easy to drive it very quickly

I completely sympathise with him.... he chopped it in for a MX5 of all things :giggle:

What a plonker.... :D

Who on this earth would want an MX5 :giggle:

Oh, me.....

Some have taste, others have opinions

A mate at work has one. He's had it 3 years, and really seems to like it.

For me, it doesn't seem that fast, interior is typical japanese (has every extra imaginable, but is cheap and plastic looking), handling is ok.

I dont think i'd spend my money on one.

I've always fancied one of these myself, but I'm a sucker for the less obvious car choice, I guess that's why I drive a Skoda. The running costs are the main reason I haven't got the MPS as wel as the boot versus hatch issue. The increase in performance over a remapped vRS doesn't outweigh the day to day running costs for me. I'd want more performance for the extra money I'd have to spend.

I test drove one but while it was quite nice i couldn't justify the extra 7/8k they wanted against my octy, and it wasn't much quicker. Wish I'd done it in some ways as a year later they were selling for more money for exact same car :'(

Guilty as charged. I did have a 6 MPS about 2 years ago. As said above it didn't really seem that fast, until you looked at the speedo and realised you were doing warp factor 9. The comfort of the interior detatched you from the driving experience.

It handled well and although I tested it's limits on a few occasions I never got to 'the raggy edge' of excitement. To be fair it was a brilliant reliable family motor but just lacking in something. The saloon boot upset me, as did the road tax and the depreciation brought a tear to my eye. For the outlay there are better cars out there IMHO. But test one and see for yourself.

The MX-5 was polar opposite. Never had so much driving enjoyment and I miss that car now the sunshine has made a return.

So in summary: buy a BMW. ;)

How about the 3MP Col?, I'm really trying to 'grow up' though and move away from hatchbacks :giggle:

Bit like me then! :D

The 3MPS is definately more involving than the 6 - but then that blows the market wide open for Focci STs/VXRs etc the 3 is very anonymous and fast in a straight line but characterless in the corners. (and again top-bracket tax)

in all honesty think your best bet is to look at a six-pot beemer.. not sure i could go back to FWD now lol
