Crash! vRS Sandwich!

Featured Replies

Just spent all yesterday and today on the phone with various insurance companies

Yesterday morning, on the way to work, the octy was in the middle of a 3 car pileup, and by the look of it, took the most damage :(

PICS:

The three cars were a focus, the octavia and a RAV4 type thing.

I was coming up to a roundabout in rush hour, so pretty busy, and was just about stationary behind the RAV4 when the focus came charging up the rear, pushing me into the car in front. :o

It was a proper steel sandwich!! The focus and the octavia were stuck together. Both coolant and aircon radiators are snapped, and the oil filter has been sheared off, so water an oil everywhere!

The boot is now about 4 inches shorter than usual, the windscreen has a big crack, and the drivers seat has moved. It's not looking good.

The focus's airbags were both deployed, and the coppers estimated him to be doing 20-25 mph, so obviously wasn't looking where he was going

Poor octy, it has just had a cam belt and polish too. B)

Are you uninjured, That's the important thing!

Unfortunately it's not looking good for the car though!

Ouch!

Sorry to hear the bad news mate. Are the police investigating the guy in the Focus? By the looks of things he needs to re-take his driving test! He must have been on the phone/lighting a fag/asleep etc. to just drive into you like that.

If you do buy the car back off the insurer, I'm sure I can think of a few bits I can come and get off you! Like westallc said, there's alot of money in breaking a car for spares.

Yeah, apart from a bit of whiplash, I'm fine.

The insurance seems to be going OK so far. The person driving the focus has admitted liability, so they have agreed to pay out or repair etc.

It's sat in a compound now waiting for the insurance assesor to make a decision on whether to repair or not.

Obviously I would like the car to be repaired, but I quite fancy something different. Maybe a 3 or 5 series BMW (Not the new style ones).

that will not be repaired it will be a write off cat c to much damage

did you tell the insurance company how much you purchased the car for???

as that is what you will get paid out.

buy the car back you must its 30% of the market value and you will make a killing i made 4k plus on mine and i only paid 1500 for it

prob with it in a compound is bits will go missing thats why i insisted mine sat out side my house

Oh such a shame :(

Glad you're okay, that's the important thing.

dont be suprised if they repair it, i've seen them go for worse!

Ouch :-( Still at least the Focus driver had admitted fault.

I quite fancy a previous 3 series estate too.

Sorry to be rading this :(

Hope you get sorted soon.

you could say you dont feel safe driving the car, if its not a write off.

Then they can give you the money for a new one.

And you can probably buy it back like everyone said, and make a killing :)

I thought you got given the current market value of the car at the time of the claim? That's what happened with my first Suzuki anyway. I had to send them clippings from current Autotrader ads to get the current value back.

they pay cuirrent value back based on your local area, as said above, but you can normally haggle what they offer, but if you haggle you will have to provide evidence of others similar mileage etc sale prices in your area. you only get what you paid for it if you buy additional gap insurance or whatever they call it, at present i would be beneficial if my car was written off as i paid 50% of what they tend to go for in this area cos the bloke needed a quick sale to move away, and the back bumper is damaged

Sorry to here your news..

I would say that would of been repairable if just the front end was damaged, but as you have had a rear shunt too the cost of parts and labour will probably right it off.

Seems a few Octys are going to Octy heaven these last few months.

Well, I'm looking on auto trader now, and ones similar to mine go for around 6 grand, which shows that they hold their value quite well. I paid £5895 around 8 months ago.

A prime example is this:

Autotrader

It has almost the same mileage (within 200 miles), and is the same age too.

There are a few 05 platers knocking about, some with astronomical mileage which go for 4,000 ish, to the low mileage ones which seem to go for around £6,500 - 7,000.

Mine had 56 thousand on the clock. What does everyone think it's worth?

you will only get what you paid if you told them the value you brought it for FACT

If it gets written off and you buy it back can I preorder: Drivers Side door lock mechanism, Drivers Side door mirror, Drivers Side Front Indicator :D :D :D

the vultures are circling lol :giggle: :giggle:

Tell me about it... lol.

It just so happens that the drivers indicator is nearly new anyway.

I've just been to look at the car today and get the mats and CD's out.

Preliminary checks seem to say that the front chassis legs etc are OK, the damage to the front seems to be the slam panel and bonnet. The wings are fine too. I think because I have a lowered car which has hit a RAV4, I have gone under it rather than into it, if that makes sense.

The back however is the biggest problem. The boot floor is quite badly bent. I can't get the polystyrene tool holder out, and all the plastic trim has come off. The boot lid is fine too.

Tell me about it... lol.

I'm cool with nearly new :D

I also need the large engine undertray and the small passenger side front corner undertray as mine have gone missing.

:D

Wait for the ambulance chasers to start if you mentioned whiplash. No win no fee and all that...

I've already had 2 solicitors called about it. God knows how they found out lol

Karl, the engine shield is shredded to bits. Has been for ages. The passenger one is probably ok tho.

Cheers as its the smaller one that is more important to help avoid hydrolocking - the pikey airbox mod pipework all goes down into that corner :o

let me know when you get it back and we can sort out prices (might have a quick check to make sure if theres anything else I need before everyone else jumps onboard )
