Advice about a few issues possibly?

Blue and pink do not like each other; flush it and fill it with one or the other. One is glycol based and the other an organic compound.

There ARE a few blue antifreeze mixtures that can be mixed with the pink stuff, but I doubt that is what you used, I have heard of the stuff, but never come across it.

PS Pink is better.

I see, thanks for clearing that up for me. I only put in a tiny amount to replace what was lost when i changed the stat, but the one I used was I think an ethanol based one, so not organic. Time for a flush :dull:

Blinkin' hell, what next ? Do Skodas need special gold laced petrol ? Maybe that's why my mpg is so poor. I 'm using the stuff that mere mortals use.

As you can tell, I am getting more and more p***ed off with the Skoda every day ! :S

^^ what he said, one is glycol based, the other is an organic acid, when you mix them you get a lovely sludge formed in the bottom of the radiator...

dont let it **** you off mate, skoda's are cheap, and easy to work on, or you could always jack it in and get a renault!!!!

Just bought 5l of G12, so I'll be changing the AF today and I already have a Renault. A few niggles, but gives me loads more mpg than this little skoda. They may be easy to work on, but that's just as well as I think I will be working on it a lot. So far, every day off i have had to do something or another. emoticon-0149-no.gif

Still, I am a stubborn git and now I've bought it I will do as much as I can to improve it, patience allowing.

The LXi has the fairly weedy version of the 1.3 (54bhp??); the GLi my son had was the meatiest at 68bhp; it drove VERY well.

His replacement car has the 54bhp and the it feels like it has only 1/2 the power of the GLi.

mines a gli, and is the 68bhp which compared to the 54 bhp (just a basic L model) in my last one is a lot nippier,

changed the stat today took me a whopping 10 minutes, and discovered why the previous stat wasnt working.. the inside of the old thermostat housing was in quite a bad damaged state, the spring had come away and was completely out of position. the fluid lost all over my father in laws garage floor was the blue version! i took her on a 60 mile round trip afterwards to see my mum for mothers day, and was running best it ever has, around the 90 (i think) mark,(the one with no marking just a line on the temp guage, right in the middle)

also thanks for jorily for supplying fast delivery, received next day even though they only sent 2nd class! and very well priced as well, highly recommendable service thanks,

Yep, told you it wouldn't take much to replace it. Mine was in the same state, the old style stat housing was a rubbish plastic design holding the actual stat in place. The little clip breaks and the water flows around the stat all the time, so it's not doing it's job.

Nice to see the temp guage needle where it should be, though I never have seen any improvement in the cars performance as a result :S

Jorily do seem to be good at sending stuff out and prices are good too. Have a look at their website as well as their ebay site, as some prices can vary. :wonder:

the stat came from their ebay site which isnt noticeable as being from them until you open the package and hes included a flyer for jorily was £12 on their ebay site they want £14.99 on the jorily site!

yeh the clip had broken in mine too! the plastic of the new one feels a lot better quality than the old one

no difference in performance just felt smoother, probably cos it was running at the right temperature!!

You dont NEED to use the pink stuff, but the Felly is prone to overheating in traffic, and the pink stuff is better as a coolant than the blue stuff.

Keep driving it normally, and I am willing to bet you will see an improvement in mpg, especially over longer distances, within a week.

Aside from being a better coolant (more effective water wetter package), G12(+) also has a better anti-corrosion package in it, and should last at least twice as long between changes, plus reducing corrosion etc so that the engine and rad last longer.

I only put a very small amount of blue into the tank as top up, but have now flushed all the previous coolant out. It was only recently done by the looks of things.

Now it has brand new G12 in it, not sure how this will improve the mpg though?

er.... it won't.

er.... it won't.

No, I didn't think so either.

The warmer weather IS making a differnce to the starting though. Still rough and lumpy, but for a shorter time.
