Octavia hatchback Tailgate trim

Featured Replies

My skoda dealer decided to replace the original rear number plate with thier own plate (Free advertising I guess) but used sticky pads to fasten it on. These are coming loose and normally I would just put on a new sticky pad but it couldn't have been put on more crooked if Long John Silver had fitted it whilst balancing on a beachball

Since I had to take the plate off to straighten it anyway , I have decided to use the proper plastic fastening bolts and nuts. (non-captive)

Can anyone please enlighten me as to how to remove the plastic trim panel from the inside the tailgate. I cannot see any screws to undo, so I assume its held on with some sort of clip. How do I take it off without snapping anything?

may just be a carefull lever and pull to remove the clips  , but if so try not to do it on a very cold day as the plastic will be more likely to crack

Its a pain in the **** to put back on.

From memory,

At the side nearest the boot lock, gently around the edges pull down the plastic panel at either side (I think theres 2 snap on fastners). When this comes apart move the whole lot parallel with the back window (Theres 5/6 metal fastners between the plastic and the window).

You'll need to people to put it back on, there'll be plenty of cursing :D

BTW dont forget to put the nylon boot pull down handle back in before you put the cover back on :)

Does your car not have the two plastic inserts in the tailgate to screw the plate into then? If you have just two holes where the inserts have been removed get hold of two new inserts and push them in then get some normal self tapping screws with the coloured caps (usually get them ona kit form motor factors/Halfords) and you wont need the headache of taking the damn panel off.

Cheers,

I had a quick look this morning and can just about make out what appears to be a plastic insert in the tailgate. I've got a set of the Halfords plastic bolts/nuts so i'll try to use these if it's easier than removing the interior trim panel.

thanks
