octavia vrs loss of power

Featured Replies

Hi guys i bought an octavia vrs mk1 a few weeks ago and since owning it around one week ago i can hear the turbo spinning up and when i lift my accelerater it gives off a little hiss just thought id mention this first to see if my problems could be to do with this. i can feel when the turbo kicks in its like a little judder which shouldnt really be there. i have just got back from a journey and on the way home the car has lost power like it isnt a turbo car and when i got neally home the car started to judder quite bad like it was going to stall. When i got out i smelt near the exhaust and there is a really foul smell coming out. There is no smoke just a horrid smell. There is no warning lights etc on and the temp gauge is running ok and the engine seems to be running fine. The car is remapped too. any help would be greatly appreciated before i take it to a garage thanks

Hi and welcome.

Firstly I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about but the juddering could be to do with one of the cylinder coils needing replacing - my mark 1 vRS did this on the day I picked it up. Got told it was partly because the car had been parked up at the garage for a few months.

Whenever I have any car issues/problems (and assuming your a member) I always call out the RAC - its free (if your a member) and they should b able to at least tell you whats wrong and maybe fix it. at least if they can't fix it but can tell you what the problem is you can ring a few garages and get some quotes rather than just leaving your car at a garage and giving them a blank cheque!!

Suprised theres no warning lights, I mean if a coil pack had gone, you would be limping....

I would get connected and see if there are any error codes thrown up, well worth looking to see if there are any VAG-Com holders near you....

Thanks for the replies guys ive been hooked up and it was misfiring on 4 changed coil and everything is back to how it should be thanks !

The bad smell from the exhaust would've been unburnt fuel in the cat.

Good to hear you got it sorted
