Sounds to me like a coil pack tbh, the power loss is the car going into limp mode, at which point its in advisable to drive it for long.

The turbo hasnt gone anywhere, just the car limping to avoid damage.

If you have any tools it would be worth looking at the coil packs... new ones if they have gone tits are £26 or thereabouts from a dealer...

Have a search for coil packs on the forum thread and hoefully you should get some ideas for what you are lookign at...

Had exactly the same trouble with mine and it was coil pack. Replaced them with dealer items and had no trouble since

Thanks guys. Left the vrs at my dads n borrowed his Saxo. Not good!!

My dads gonna take it to the nearest skoda dealer to have it checked over

Took out all the coil packs individually before to check any difference without any

the engine ran worse with 3 individual ones taken out. The one under the bracket(is it number 4?) when running ran even worse with it out

anyone??

It's when the engine doesn't run any different when you remove one that you know a coilpack has gone.

Have the garage had it on any diagnostic equipment yet?

Hi no I'll have to leave it with my dad as I've took his back to Manchester

Is it reccommended to get a diagnostic or should I take a gamble n get a new coil pack n stick it in ??

Incidentally is it wise to replace all coils or just one??

I know they're pricey too

Always recommended to get a diagnostic done, as you can narrow down the issue further...

Just incidentally, when I bought mine, a coil pack was playing up, the car had been sat around not doing anything for a month so was complaining at me, I just took all the coil packs out, then put them back in.... Went out to buy a new one, bought it, and it is still sat in my boot brand new, coil pack never played up since....

i had a coil pack fail & i un pluged one coil at a time & if there was no change in the engine note that was the faulty coil.i only changed the one faulty coil & the car ran fine for 3000m then another one went! i then replaced all the others! i paid around £35+vat for each coil. if you can afford to replace all 4 coils at once i would as it was a pain in the ar*e when my 2nd coil failed! :)

Diagnostic should be able to tell you what the problem is before you go spending £35 a throw on new coil packs. In the past there have been problems where the spark plugs have been changed (or standard spark plugs have been used after a remap) and they are not seated tightly enough and have caused the coilpacks to come loose, in this case just tightening the plugs and re-fitting the coilpacks carefully has solved the problem. Or you can buy or build a coilpack hold-down plate to stop it happening.

Couldn't get a diagnostic done. the wire had been cut Due to the fact it is an ex police car.(something to do with calibration of the speedo) and the garage can't wire it up till next week.

The mechanic seemed to think the problem is the coil pack so I'm gonna go down n pick it up tomoz n get 2 new coil packs n fit em.

Fingers crossed
