Belt or Chain

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if the current 1.4 TSI engine has a belt or chain drive for the camshafts

Thank you

Honestjohn reckons the TSi engines are chain driven not belt.

We've had this before - I believe they are Chain driven

Why don't you just look !

If it is a belt it will be external to the engine covered by a plastic cover, if it a chain it will be internal

The reason for me asking was I have just ordered a new Elegance 1.4 TSI and am awaiting delivery.

I am trying to build up as much knowledge in advance, before delivery as I have an interest all these related items.

But thanks for the tip, if I don't get a positive answer then I'll just have to wait.

The 1.4 TSI 122 PS has a "maintenance-free timing chain".

I think some of the loose wording being bandied about with respect to the supercharged 160PS being belt driven (ie. the belt driving the supercharger) is muddying the waters.

Thanks for the info Cauliflower - thats what I was hoping to hear.

Never did like the idea for two camshafts being driven by a rubber band.

And just to reassure folk if 'chain -v- belt' would influence the choice of a vehicle, I'm finding the 1.4 TSI to be very quiet indeed, even standing beside it with the bonnet up.
