Which springs?

Featured Replies

Hello Guys and Gals,

I will apologise if there have been several threads similar to these but couldnt find any that helped me when i searched.

I basically want to lower my Fabia vRS on springs, i am not interested in coilovers so please dont suggest them.

I know that Eibach do a set but they are only 20mm drop which doesnt seem a lot.

I dont want it to be slammed like coilovers do, i just want it to sit lower rather than look like a monster truck.

Could anyone suggest some makes/springs that they would recommend.

Thanks,

Chris

AP/Weitec/KW all do springs for a 30mm drop (ish)

Check out DPM/Awesome GTI or any of the sponsors on the forum as they are well priced and offer a reliable service.

Thanks for the reply,

I will have a look now.

Are some makes better than others?

Sorry if the questions seem stupid, but i have only ever used Eibach but they dont offer a big enough drop.

I never had a problem with how the ride height looked with Eibachs fitted TBH.

But if I couldn't fit Eibach (for whatever reason) I'd probably fit a set of KW springs. Quality of those seemed good too.

Nah, they won't scrub at that drop.

Give Sarah a ring at Awesome and check if you like - she'll happily get you a set shipped out

Hello

Did someone call?

Yes we do the Koni springs too :D

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=13645&xSec=1777

There you go , there is the link

I must admit , Koni are stunning with the shockers

They do not make their own springs , but then I am sure they would not sell rubbish stuff to make their shockers look bad

Cracking prices too

I must admit , we do tend to reccomend anyone to do springs and shockers on cars that have dome 40-60k miles

This is because the shockers wear

Sarah

Hi there - sorry to steal your post somewhat but saves making a new one... I've got an X reg Fabia 1.4 which is all standard and has 40k miles.

I'd love it lowered and would want to do this the cheapest way possible - springs my best option? Also, does anybody have a recomendation for some springs which won't cost a bomb and ride okay?

Many thanks everyone

Springs can be had for as little as £75... but they are probably only as good as £75 if you see what I mean...

Hah - yeahhh I understand what you mean. I'm on a student budget though and not really concerned if it's a bit of a harsh ride. What's the problem with cheapo springs anyway? Is it just really uncomfy or what? (sorry, i'm completely new to this!)

Also, is second hand springs a bit of a dodgey route to take or...?

Depends if the 2nd hand springs are in good condition, how long they've been on the car etc

Cheap ones tend to use cheaper materials, but they still have to meet TUV standards so they are ok, just not as good as more expensive ones.

Bit like buying a french car, they're ok, but not quite as good as the germans :)

Nicely put! :D

Interesting.... I really didn't know that..

I was considering changing the springs in my 70k 54 vRS.

Didn't really want to do much more than make it sit a bit better for mostly aesthetic reasons.

I don't really chuck it about much and I think just changing the springs will change the handling more than enough for me...

My previous car was a Bora with coilovers and that broke your back when you drove over a fag butt :D

Would replacement oem shocks do or would I have to go the whole hog... 25mm drop is plenty for me.

With some nice 17's that would look okay I reckon. I just don't want to make it as harsh as the Bora was

Eibach springs are always a really popular choice especially when wanting to keep the original dampers but as mentioned it is always best to get matched springs and shocks.

Remember that the VRS is already a little lower then standard so unless the kits are specifically for the VRS you won't get the full quoted drop.

Personally I find the AP and Weitec springs and shocks kits superb quality and perfect for everyday fast road use.

Cars only touched 18k so i wont be investing in new shocks.

For the people out there who have had springs etc, if you had the choice between the Eibach 40mm or the Koni 40mm which would you go for?

In have also compared the Eibach's to other sites that sell them and they state it will lower upto 25mm?!?

Hello

Yes on the vRS it will only lower approx 25mm

The Pro kit from Eibach do tend to lower approx 40mm , but not on this one , sorry

I will have a word , but it is genrally correct

Any car that is lowered on springs will put the shockers though more grief , so if the shockers are well gone , then the ride quality will be very poor , bouncy and feel rubbish

Yes , OEM shockers new will be OK , but be aware that they will wear quicker than the sports shorts

If anyone has any questions , that is what we are here for

Thats brilliant sarah,

so just to confirm the eibach ones that you sell will only lower upto 25mm? Its just they say upto 40mm on the website an my little brain is frazzled!

It'll look like this on Eibachs if that helps. The drop was spot-on in my opinion :)
