Which springs?

Featured Replies

No probs. That's with FSDs fitted too - which have been accused of making the car sit a little higher than if std shocks were fitted. Can't say I agree with that though.

Thanks for all your help,

Finally got round to it and ordered the Eibach springs :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Has any one fitted FSD's with standard springs or is it best to fit springs at the same time?

Sorry to bang on! But I could do with any helpful advice people might have! I have booked the Furby in to be fitted with Koni FSD's (in a local garage), OEM springs and a Jabba RARB, I am hoping to improve the handling a little without significantly deteriorating the ride.

Has anyone fitted this setup? It would seem that, reading through the forums, most fit the FSD’s with the Eibach ProKit but require trimming of the bump stops in order not to suffer a too higher a penalty to the ride quality.

As I live in deepest darkest Somerset the roads are in places very poor quality! As I do a 100 mile-a-day commute I was hoping to improve handling and safety.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My experience was the Eibachs and FSDs had a superior ride quality to the standard setup. So you got the best of both worlds

But FSDs were originally designed to be used with standard suspension springs, so you'll be fine. In fact if you search back far enough you'll see that it took someone to just go out and try them with Eibach lowering springs, as nobody knew whether they'd work properly together!

I'd still recommend running them with Eibachs, but that's personal preference. What is an acceptable ride level for one person, is different for another. But suffice to say, you'll notice the difference :)

Hah - yeahhh I understand what you mean. I'm on a student budget though and not really concerned if it's a bit of a harsh ride. What's the problem with cheapo springs anyway? Is it just really uncomfy or what? (sorry, i'm completely new to this!)

Also, is second hand springs a bit of a dodgey route to take or...?

cheap brand new springs are not necessarily as bad as the old saying "you get what you pay for" I changed my suspension on my previous car about three times and the cheapest set was Gmax springs+shocks. It wasn't that bad and they lasted 70k. They were very firm.

I'd avoid 2nd hand springs and dampers because its too much of an unknown qty imo

Are not the Koni FSD's shorter in length?

maybe someone can explain this because I thought uprated dampers ment shorted piston rods? which means it will be bad for standard springs? please just say if i'm not making sense.

Thanks for the advice Steve.

Not sure myself Newskoda, worried now that there may be a problem, not so keen to fit eibachs if I have also got to mod the bumpstops. :wonder:

Will have to give it some thought, there does seem to be some variation in peoples experiences on here with ride comfort!

The Koni FSD`s are designed to be used with or without OEM springs

The maximum length that the FSD`s can be lowered is 30mm

Dont worry

Sarah

Sarah,

Brilliant, I will get them fitted and see how I get on! B)
