Boot Size and Shape

Featured Replies

Dear Yeti Owners,

I'm in the final stages of confirming that a Yeti is for me but am missing one vital piece of info; can I sleep in the back of it?

If anyone has a tape measure to hand and can clear rear seats etc out of the way and measure the overall internal boot length (and maybe if I'm fussy the max imum cored to corner diagonal) and post it here, then I'm be very happy!

I'm presuming that, when seats are pushed up the boot floor is largely flat as well...can anyone confirm?

If the Yeti is as short as I'm worried it is, I may need to look at an Octavia Scout afterall.

Many thanks!

AndyH - I am sure you will get some interesting answers here so this should be a fun thread. It may be worth posting how tall you are as that will be a factor. I looked at both cars and the Octavia Estate, Scout or normal, has an enormous boot. If you are tall then it is a no contest situation. If you are a little shorter then the Yeti comes into it but it will be a push. Part of the appeal, to some people, is that the Yeti is not large in terms of length. The downside to that is for what you need.

Do you need to have 4WD? If not then the Superb has a boot that could fit a family of 4 in for a sit down meal with the gentleman of the car retiring to the far end for cigars and port afterwards and the kids being safely away from the smoke. Vast does not enter into it. I have seen the estate yet and I assume that is even bigger. You can probably fit a whole Yeti in the back of that.

Presume you will be using a "Blow up" mattress :giggle:

Can you tell me what part of the country you are in?... and I'll get back to you with an answer that may help!

Thanks for that!

I'm 5'10 which means that I'm expecting the Yeti to be a bit short...

Since you asked, I'm after something that can:

1 - Handle snow and ice covered roads in Scotland in winter when the snow gates are shut and I want to go skiing or climbing

2 - Crash around country lanes in all weathers when I'm off on the mountain bike

3 - Take lots of kit for a week camping with the girlfriend, long weekend skiing in Scotland or whatever

4 - Be comfy for long drives on the motorway to Scotland or the A roads to the west country

5 - Not be too big to park on my road in London

6 - Ideally, be big enough to drop the back seats and sleep it (not the sort of think most dealers like you trying!)

So, it's really a toss up for me between:

-Octavia estate for the long drives, space and comfort but less good for parking and zipping around London

-Yeti, almost perfect but maybe a little too small (depending on how the tape measures come up)

(1) and (4) an Octy will handle, up til the point where you start questioning your sanity about being out at all in these conditions.

If it's just you and girlfriend, you could take out the 3 rear seats and hey presto bigger boot ;)

Thanks for that!

Andy H, interesting that you consider the Octavia would be better for long drives due to comfort. From what former Octavia owners have said on this forum, the Yeti is the more refined, smoother riding car?

Anyway, I would also like to know the total distance from edge of the boot to the back of the front seats (with back seats removed) but cannot seem to find it anywhere either. All of the measurements I have seen still include the seats folded up which takes a chunk of the boot away.

If it's just you and girlfriend, you could take out the 3 rear seats and hey presto bigger boot ;)

BigHusky,

Did you take your 2 Husky dogs to the dealers... and get to put them in the boot?

It's an opinion that I'm changing having now read more from people who have driven both!

If anyone could be bothered to get the tape measure out there are two people who'd be interested in the result!

Octy estate 4x4 or scout will do 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.

I can confirm 1,2,3 and 4 myself and my neighbour (who is a 6 footer and has the variable boot floor in his octy estate) can confirm 6.

Awright already:

Boot, back from door to back of seats as I have them 1560 mm 61.5 inches.

Diagonal 1900 ..75 inches.

Looks OK if you are spooning and the SWIMBO is not too tall.

Plenty of headroom to sit up - that is questionable in the Octy.

Great stuff, thanks! Looks just big enough.

A trip to the dealership awaits then...I've just got to break the news to my old Fabia now...

Thanks for that Agerbundsen. I imagine that if you slide the front seats forward then a six footer could lie down in the back without going diagonal. What am I on about anyway, am I really going to like my Yeti so much that I want to sleep in itemoticon-0140-rofl.gif
