Miltek Exhaust ?????

Featured Replies

The exhaust has started knocking when going over our potholed roads........................ever tried finding a road without a pothole

It is coming from the centre section and as suggested by Jon i had a look under the car this weekend.

He had said it was probably the two rubber mounts that locate the exhaust just between the catalyst and the 1st box.

Well i checked and both are secure, what appears to be happening is that the 1st box seems to have a lot of lateral movement allowing it to knock against the protective shield that is bolted to the underside of the car.

There is quite a distance between these mounts and the next one by the inverted U bend.

I suspect that the increased weight of the exhaust has weakend these rubber mounts allowing the knocking.

The question is what to do anyone else had this problem with the miltek.

Ive thought about rigging a bracket to take the place of the rubber mounts to prevent the lateral movement.

Its just finding the best method

Has anyone asked Miltek themselves about the knocking....I mean afterall they are the ones that designed the system so should have some idea of any problems/niggles.

Has anybody else had the same experience as Huck and youself? If so maybe it's something that Miltek need to be advised off so they can sort it for you.

Hope you can sort it!

Cheers.

Adrian.

Yep, and eventually the rubber perishes and splits from the increased heat and vibration and you need to fit new mounts (well it did on mine from the grief mine gets on track). Karl, it will eventually pop out, probably after a hot run on a bumpy road (mine did after 10 laps of the ring). I think Mattias had the same with his exhaust (aftermarket but not Milltek). I'm just trying to modify soem group N Golf mounts for mine.

As I said I don't think its a Milltek issue, more an aftermarket exhaust issue.

Let me know how u get on with those mounts!!! :?: :?:

Got to do something but dont want to do anything Heath robinson style want it to at least look the part.

Unfortunately heath robinson is exactly what i have at the moment but it wont last

Question would a rigid mount be alright Im sure I could utilise a L bracket arrangement or has there got to be some give in that mount hence the use of rubber :?:
