Filler Flap Won't Close

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Any suggestions to this problem. Filler flap won't catch so when I press to close it, it just bounces back.

The in-car leaver operated it fine, unlatching it but now I can't close it.

I've seen this thread http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/142159-filler-flap/page__p__1874915__hl__fuel%20cap__fromsearch__1entry1874915 which covers replacing the flap but I hope my troubles aren't that problematic.

I can see two metal catches inside, one gold/bronze and one dark metal. Both seem to move if I push them and the actual filler flap plastic catch bit isn't cracked...

I'm quite an avid browser and haven't seen any similar post on the fabia I forum so perhaps I'm an unlucky candidate here?

when it happened to me last year i got it fixed as a warranty job.

Not sure what they did, but it did need booking in so that they had the right parts, rather than a 5-minute while-you-wait fix

alright m8 sound like the cable has popped out, if u go into the boot and pull away the carpet trim on the right hand side(as if accessing the buld holder) u should see a black cable with a gold spring at the end along with a little black piece at the end with a rounded edge, shine a light and yopu should be able to see a little black hole pop it back in the with round edge outwards. easy.......

hope this helps.

erm I know I shouldn't admit this but I had this problem tried for a week pushing it in slowly, fast etc, next time I filled up it closed yay :) anyways next time I filled up same problem it wouldn't shut , one day filling up looked at the bit of string that holds the cap was getting caught haha!

Thanks for the info everyone and pointing to the other post.

I've gone and had a look but even pushing the clip back in place isn't holding the filler cap closed. Something a little more involving must be causing this problem. Going to try fiddling again...
