Buckled Wheels on New LTD EDT

Featured Replies

Hi,

I (or the wife!) have managed to buckle the front two wheels on the new ltd edition.

Ive already replaced one - cost best part of £350 in total.

Hase anyone else had problems? we havent been raping the car or taking it off road and can only think of a few harsh pot holes but none bad enough to pull your fillings out.

The wheels are quite alot cheaper than the ones that come as standard on the normal vrs, about £70 cheaper.

Think they may be sub standard.

Thanks for looking and any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Good for you Barry

I wonder if they are from the same manufacturer that BMW use for some of their 19" alloys?

There were a few Watchdog episodes on BBC1 recently covering the fact that hundreds of BMW drivers were noticing that their wheels were cracking.

BMW tried to fob them off accusing their customers of bad driving!

Needless to say they soon changed tact when after the exposure from Watchdog it was identified to be a manufacturing defect! :giggle:

they soon changed tact

They changed tack, not tact. It's a sailing idiom.

Yea Ive seen the BMW rims and they all seen to crack at the back of the rim like they have a ring and the weld that seals the ring pops.

not good for a car that is 25K +

Id say the rims are crap mate, even with replicas Ive never had trouble. other than the Team Dynamics one that the company have sorted for me.

I If I was you id get some good aftermarket ones mate,

they are team dynamics monza's they should cot about £130 each from dealers or any alloy company selling TD.

Actually, more commonly used to describe a short, sharp-pointed nail, usually with a flat, broad head. :wonder:

There has been some useful info imparted as a result of this thread and some of you are just being silly...................

Yes, but not as part of a sailing idiom describing change. This tack is about changing direction. BMW was changing its stance. A boat changes tack, which is direction, BMW didn't change its 'short, sharp-pointed nail, usually with a flat, broad head' did it? :o

;)

Ace :D

One of the few people who haven't imparted any useful information to this thread is in fact you? ;)

I didn't say they did? I was merely adding to the original and completely irrelevent but more widely known use for the word 'tack'

I have to admit that I have seen a couple of threads regarding damage to the LE wheels, but I don't think that damage to the standard vRS wheels (Zenith or Neptune) has been mentioned.

I managed to bend both drivers side wheels on my LE too, had them both repaired only to find that the rear drivers side is bent again.

The first time i did hit a rather large pothole, but the second time i dont remember hitting anything of any real significance.

I think they are just cheap wheels!

I have to concur with the views here about how easily damaged the LEs wheels are with potholes, I/SWMBO have been able to deform the NS front outer rim by dropping into potholes (2 different occasions), only on one wheel so far, not very noticable unless you really look closely, but I know it is there. I wont be replacing these wheels I will simply purchase 4 x 18" Neptunes when the damage gets any worse.

Edit: anyone got a web link to the official accesories website for 18" Neptunes, I see the 17" Zeniths but not the Neptunes.

At least they didn't fit something even worse to the car.

It would seem that most people with LEs will end up swapping the wheels eventually. Perhaps it's worthwhile swapping them before they get too damaged and then putting the OE LE wheels back on when you want to sell the car on. You could probably sell the replacement wheels too for a fair chunk rather than paying to have your LE wheels repaired because of pothole damage all the time.

James I agree could be worse, I actually like the look of the Monzas they have gronw on me, they are a real pain to keep clean though and seem to be succeptable to pothole dings though. Would you happen to have a link for the official skoda part for a 18" Neptune alloy?

werid, ive hit a few bad pot holes since i saw them 2 late, so far the rims have been fine. Guessing my luck now i will get 2 dented rims on the way home tonight right after i type this

Oddly I cannot find the Neptunes on my system with a part number, only shows Zenith as vRS alloys. I can find out for you from the parts department if you'd like?

i have had to replace one of my le wheels due to pot hole damage . plus i know a dealer who was runing an le who damaged one of there wheels in the same pothole.

Was in last night and could not find any Neptunes, a link would be great

  • 2 weeks later...

Do you still need the part number for the alloys?
