Bloody mechanics

Featured Replies

Had car serviced last week( Tuesday ). Going away in car tomorrow, so washed, polished car, tyres checked. Opened bonnet to do fluides and to my suprise there is a rag around my alternator. Must have been used on the fuel pump to clean up. It's got an hole in the rag where belt has ripped through it. Some fibers were wrapped around altenator and inside where the windings are. Got most out. Done about 200 miles since service. I'm suprised it never caught fire. Will post a pic. Can't wait to go back to garage, someone for the jump. Everything still seems ok with the car. Time will tell.

I have had a similar experience with my cars.

I remember having an exhaust fitted to my old car and noticed the mechanic had trouble shutting my bonnet, he eventually did. When I got home I opened it to what the problem was, he had stupidly left a socket extension bar in the gap between the wing. The other missed thing was I took my Furby in for service, a week later I looked under the bonnet and found an aluminium torch laying near the fuel filter. :o That could have easily come loose and jammed in my fan belt and done serious damage..

Anyone reckon it might of done any damage of further damage? Don't want it catching fire or anything!

Looking at your photo I reckon a blast of compressed air will clear out the fluff

Made it 150 miles today ok. 60 mpg. I think more fluff has come out. Touch wood it's ok.

At least if you go DIY you can curse yourself if you ever make such a stupid error :D
