Judder and Rough Idle

Featured Replies

Hi All

Any thoughts on the following:

1) At approx 70mph I have noticed a pulsing kind of judder from the car. Wheels have recently been rebalanced and no problems with them, but the whole car seems to judder/vibrate.

2) Rough idle. Rev counter is static at about 850 RPM and needle shows no movement but it seems likes the cylinders miss firing every few seconds.

Any thoughts or similar experiences.

Car is Octy II TDi 140 BHP with 107,000 miles and rising!!

Thanks

I get similar to point 2 after a fast run from time to time.

Not really sure what it is as yet, but you can see the idle move off the expected idle from time to time in line with the off feeling idle.

I get number two also, but sorry can't help with an explanation..

Expiring Flywheel for point 2?

Expiring Flywheel for point 2?

I'm thinking DMF or EGR system, but I'm trying to work out which is more likely before approaching a garage.

OK, looks like it's worth a trip to the dealer then. Thanks gents.

Yo, this has been covered on here and loads of other forums. It seems a pretty common occurance and to some dealers it's a characteristic of the car....

Check:

MAF

EGR (as mentioned)

Injector loom

Timing

Engine Mounts

DMF (as mentioned)

Search will bring up a fair few options on what it could be.

You could attempt to get around it by raising the idle RPM...or lowering it.

Best of luck.

BTW, sorry for not uploading the MAF graph I've had some issues, but no your MAF peaks don't look like mine. Saying that I can't be sure my MAF is good either now.

I've also got point 2 on my petrol vrs, dealer says it's normal..

Well today I've bunged another, brand new, MAF on mine and the idle judder remains, so it's not that, for me anyhow. And, the peaks and plot in VAG COM is exactly the same as the previous MAF - So I have a good spare now!

If yours looks nothing like mine perhaps yours is cream creackered....
