Showroom Tax

Featured Replies

Quick one.

We all know that our wonderful government is now imposing Showroom Tax on all new cars from April 2010.

I know this is daft - but does this apply only to NEW orders made AFTER 1st April?

Thanks

Is this the same one that is added to your first year of tax? If it is I would say it effects any car over a set CO2 registered on or after 01/04/2010. Regardless of when you ordered the car.

Balls

My car is being built this week and wont be registered until after 1st April then... Looks like another £125 I have to fork out!

Ah

No wait.

It's not *another* £125.

From that directgov link posted - basically you pay a different rate in the first year than you do for the rest of it.

And for Skoda Octavia vRS CR's... it's £125, which is the same as the standard tax rate anyway, so no biggie :)

I think it only effects cars in band H or higher so no the diesel vRS is not effected but the petrol is.

Yeah, anything Band H or above

it seems like blowing hot & cold to me, i don't follow the logic.

Quick everybody! Buy a new car, get rid of your old banger!

Stop everybody! Don't buy new cars, we're encouraging you to buy a second hand one...

Seems strange.

There's more to it than that.

They are trying to make you buy "greener" cars.

**** that I say, CO2 is food for trees

Maybe the trees want to go on a diet :giggle:

If you buy a new car then the on the road price includes tax. As I understand it when I ordered the car the on road tax cost is included no matter what it is when it is delivered.

It may be true that the dealer will increase prices on any orders after 1st Apri, i don't knowl.

I'm fairly sure that there will be a clause somewhere stating that any changes in Taxation are outside of the dealers control and can be added to the cost. I suspect many dealers will waive it as goodwill, but I wouldn't bet on it not being charged...

When I ordered my Scout through Drive The Deal a couple of weeks ago they told me that because it won't be delivered until after the tax rise, I'll have to pay the difference in tax on top of the quoted price - which is now shown on my order form.

I ordered a car a couple of days ago (for June delivery) and we worked the Showroom tax into the deal. Basically your road tax has a supplement added for you CO2 output. In my case the car puts out 172 gms and the road tax should be £180, but with the SRT added it comes in at £250. This is a one off and next year it will revert back to its’ normal tax price. Many cars don’t have to pay anything, but it’s not too bad if you have an efficient car.
