2009 vRS "oil leak" around turbo Should I buy?

Featured Replies

Hi,

About to buy 2009 vRS CR TDi Ltd Edition from Skoda dealer.

Was due to pick upon Saturday but the car won't be ready because they're replacing the turbo as they've found an oil leak from it.

Cars history... Reg 3/09, 24350miles, FSH main dealer, used by older Stobbarts rep for "motorway miles" known to dealer who changes car annually.

What's likely to be behind this oil leak?

Should I walk away from the purchase?

If not, is there anything else that should be checked or done eg oil flush etc?

Thanks

Despite this problem it should still have 2 years warranty?

Other positive being that the dealer has been honest enough to say why the car won't be ready on original date.

You are getting a brand new turbo which will have fresh warranty, I think it makes it a better deal. The seals could have been gone on the turbo. If its still got the oil leak after the turbo change, thats a different story.

My understanding is that parts replaced under warranty don't extend the manufacturer's warranty unless you make a contribution to their cost. The car will retain the remainder of its normal three year warranty though. If you were to pay for the turbo it would come with its own two year warranty from Skoda.

Ok, scrap my comments on the warranty but surely a brand spanking new turbo is a Brucy Bonus.

I would have thought so. But as its already been said, if the leak persists AFTER the new turbo, i'd be doing some more digging and thinking.............

i would still go for it

Definitely go for it, new Turbo is an absolute bonus.....if you want to be sure you can check oillevels regularly (should one do anyway) and have the turbo checked again at another dealer a month on....

I'd be asking if the oil feed pipes to the turbo have been done at the same time.
