Over speed safety lighting

Featured Replies

If you go over a certain speed all the headlights come on and stay on.

I dont know if this over-speed is related to that programmed into the maxi-dot.

If you put the light switch to the off position then back to auto they come on again (daytime).

How do you reset this safety feature apart from ignition off/on ?

Enjoying the vRS so far.

Presumably just slow down? 85mph rings a bell...

slowing down doesn't always work. Mine the over day just would not come off I put it down to it wasn't overly bright out. Its the only real grumble with the vRS is the auto lights can be overly keen to switch on.

Of course one should not be going fast enough in the UK to activate this feature ;)

So this over speed threshold has nowt to do with the maxi-dot setting ?

Here's the relevant extracts from the online manual:-

Motorway lights

If the automatic light control* has been switched on and the vehicle speed is over 140 km/h for at least 10 seconds, the side lights and low beam are switched on automatically.

If the vehicle speed is below 65 km/h for at least 2 minutes, the lights are switched off.

Rain lights

If you switch on the windscreen wipe in the operation rain sensor* for longer than 10 seconds or in the operation permanent wipe (position 2 or 3) ⇒ page 69

switching on for longer than 15 seconds, the side lights and low beam are switched on automatically. The light switches off if the windscreen wipe is in operation rain sensor* for more than 4 minutes or is not switched on in the operation permanent wipe.

How do you reset this safety feature apart from ignition off/on ?

All I do is turn the auto lights switch to 'off' and obviously I would never ever contemplate driving over 140 km/h in the UK. B)

Not on public roads anyway. I get on airfields quite often.

"999" are you a member of the local Constabulary ?
