On the verge of a purchase

Featured Replies

Hi - I've been reading the forum in detail over the last few weeks. I am on the verge of buying a Superb Estate, and this site has been very helpful.

I am going with the Elegance 170 DSG with metallic paint (light silver), full length roof, heated screen and sunset glass. This comes to £27875 OTR. I have managed to get that price down to £25700 OTR. Now I have two questions. 1. Is the roof worth the extra (does anyone have one.. and what is it like), and 2. Is this a good deal, or can I squeeze my dealer for a bigger discount?

Cheers

Jake,

May I know who your dealer is? The discount seems reasonable.

It is Robert Bamfords in Gloucester - they seem pretty nice so far.

Ha yeah.. I suppose they would be at this stage!!

That looks like a good discount. As a yardstick, what pricing do you get from carquake or drivethedeal?

My local dealer said that they won't discount, yet the next nearest one will. I wouldn't necessarily expect to match the prices quoted by carquake or drivethedeal (although some have I think) and would be prepared to pay a small premium for buying from a local dealer.

Drivethedeal are quoting £24700 for the exact spec listed above.

I am keen to get a unit of Superb Estate 2.0 TDI 140 PS. Wondering if there is any dealer who is keen to offer a good "bulk order" discount for consolidated purchases from Briskoda members?

Managed to get it down to £23700 with car quake.. Any thoughts on these guys? I'd be the 2nd registered owner, what issues does that throw up? Anyone done this?

I'd have a careful think about this. Sometimes, the cheapest is not always the best, for a variety of reasons. Compare like for like if possible, rather than go purely on price, especially with this sort of amount.

Thanks.. having a slight dilemma

Dealer best price = £25700 (New first reg owner)

Drivethedeal = £24700 (New first reg owner)

Car Quake = £23700 (New second reg owner)

That is quite a big difference. Not sure what to do!

Any idea why they have to register the car? Is that common practice with such brokers?

I've only ever dealt with a main dealer for my cars, but I've been disappointed with other products when buying on price alone, especially with refunds and returns. If the best price will only lead to future aggravation, then it's not the best price IMO.

I can only assume they put in a bulk order as a fleet car company would... I think drivethedeal lets you deal directly with the dealer in any case so this might be the best option. Besically they just introduce the dealer to you and vice versa.. But I would like to know anyone else's opinions..

I agree with Jakeyc above, drivethedeal will put you in touch with a dealer and you will only pay money to the dealer. They have been around a fair while and I would say are a trusted brand.

I've not heard of carquake.

I'd plump for drivethedeal AFTER giving your nearest couple of dealers the chance to match the price.

Dan

The £25,700 from the dealer is a good deal, but you have a PM.
